It seems that Palgrave's idea of "day" in their "deal of the day" is pretty fluid, and unpredictable: 1. 4/28/18 6:26 p.m. EST--Cross-Cultural Communication was the DoD. However, I think that it had also been the DoD of 4/27/18, also. If so, that's two days. 2. 4/29/18 12:46 a.m. EST--Audience Participation in Theatre was the DoD. It seemed to be good for one day. 3. 4/30/18 2:56 p.m. EST--Crime Script Analysis: Preventing Crimes Against Business (I haven't posted, and don't plan to post, this one) is the DoD. However, the book's webpage says that the special price will be good through May 1, which is tomorrow; therefore, the deal will have lasted two days. So, as I said, it looks like the durations of Palgrave's "deals of the day" are unpredictable. However, I will make a point to check the website every day. I may not post every one of the deals, it depends how broad-based I think that the interest in the book will be among MobileReaders. I don't know about you, but I can live with a little inconvenience if I can save 89% or more on ebooks that I need or want. ![]() For MobileReaders in Great Britain: there is a Palgrave "deal of the day" webpage for you guys. ![]() FWIW--I know how Mississippians pronounce the town's name, it's "Koz-ee-US-ko." However, Southerners (people in the southeastern United States) often have a different way of pronouncing things than the rest of the country (and, sometimes, the world) does. I wish that I could think of (another?) example, off the top of my head . . . . some of them are unintentionally funny . . . . Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-30-2018 at 11:13 AM. |

Just to help keep the thread off-topic...
![]() And then, of course, there's the Midnight Oil song titled Kosciusko, although it's about native Australian rights (or lack of) rather than the mountain or the Polish hero. Quote:

This is important, because you might run into Oprah Winfrey one day, and she might give you a new car (like she did everyone in her studio audience one time) if she asks you the correct pronunciation of her hometown, and you get the pronunciation correct. ![]() Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 04-30-2018 at 11:31 AM. |

Thread drift can be entertaining, but I think we've exhausted the possibilities of Kosciusko. If we could try to get back on topic, please?

I like that, thanks for sharing it.
I don't know if YouTube can be set to play the same video over and over (is that called a "loop"?) but, if so, I'd like to try for that a while, and see how well I can get the song to "stick." Some people are better visual learners than auditory learners. The visuals, though simple, are great for visual learners; even for auditory learners it will help reinforce what they hear. |

It's 12:14 a.m. EST, May 1, right now, but Palgrave has already changed the "deal of the day" and upped the price to the usual price. As I mentioned, Palgrave said that the offer on this book would be "good through May 1." A "through" date traditionally is inclusive (of that date), and not exclusive (of that date). To use the above as an example, "through May 1" would almost, if not completely, universally be taken to mean "including" or "all the way through" May 1. So, the deal shouldn't have ended until today, Tuesday, May 1 is over. I love Palgrave's deals, but their unpredictability is annoying. I'll still post their deals occasionally, but I feel like I'm going to have to give a caveat, with each post, that the terms of the deal could change at any moment. Palgrave's Newest "DoD" (or However Long that Palgrave Decides to Run It).
Buy the Kindle mobi for $89.00, or the hardback book at Amazon or Palgrave for $99.99. Or, get the digital version of A Girl's Education: Schooling and the Formation of Gender, Identities and Future Visions, by Judith Gill and Katharine Esson, directly from Palgrave in their "Deal of the Day," for only $9.99!
Students, you might want check your required book list for any summer classes that you're taking that might be related to the subject of this book. This (as most, if not all, of the Palgrave books that I've seen) seems to be the type of books often used for textbooks or "required reading." For those who will not be students this summer, you may be interested in reading the book simply because you're interested in the subject. Here's the description of the book, from Palgrave: This book argues that educators and the general public have become complacent about girls’ education as a consequence of the more recent fuss about problems for boys. After an analysis of persistent disquiet about girls’ lifestyles, it uses theories of gender and education to demonstrate that girls are being produced in contradictory ways in current schooling. Many girls develop a sense of themselves through close connection with friendship groups but schooling processes typically require them to adopt the position of competitors in the end-of-school rankings and to act out their individualized positions in imagining themselves into the future. Ultimately the work offers insight and understanding leading to a less divisive educational pathway for girls. Sincerely trying not to tip my hand as to where my views may lie, I simply will say that the opinions expressed in this book are almost certainly left of center. Find out much more about the ebook, and purchase it if you're so inclined, at this webpage. I won't regurgitate what I've said before, but based upon previous offers such as this by Palgrave, this deal is subject to end at nearly any time. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 05-02-2018 at 03:14 AM. |

Black Nationalist Thought in South Africa--the Newest Palgrave DoD. $9.99!
Palgrave's "Deal of the Day" is Black Nationalist Thought in South Africa: The Persistence of an Idea of Liberation. Hashi Kenneth Tafira is the author.
Description: This book maintains that South Africa, despite the official end of apartheid in 1994, remains steeped in the interstices of coloniality. The author looks at the Black Nationalist thought in South Africa and its genealogy. Colonial modernity and coloniality of power and their equally sinister accessories, war, murder, rape and genocide have had a lasting impact onto those unfortunate enough to receive such ghastly visitations. Tafira explores a range of topics including youth political movement, the social construction of blackness in Azania, and conceptualizations from the Black Liberation Movement. While it is called a "Deal of the Day," this deal actually is subject to end at nearly any time, based upon the past history of these promotions. In fact, Palgrave announced that the last DoD would be valid "through May 4, 2018." It is not even 12 midnight EST on May 3, at this writing. So, if you are interested in any one of the DoD ebooks, grab it while you can. One thing that has been consistent with Palgrave's DoDs, however, is the near-stunning markdowns on the ebooks. This kind of book (academic, scholarly, esoteric to one degree or another) is one that rarely gets marked down except for perhaps a smidgen. This present ebook has a list price of $89.00, but is currently $9.99! Doing some quick math in my head (okay, I'm lying--I'm having to do some quick punching on a calculator's keys. ![]() ![]() Well I've skipped some pertinent details about the ebook, but you can take a gander at the book's webpage to find out those. |

Pen & Sword's 99p Selection from Its Current Sale.
Almost all (with some notable exceptions) of the books that Pen & Sword, an U.K. publishing company, produces are in some way related to British wars and/or their military.
Pen & Sword periodically have sales. Often, if not always, they will have a selection of .99£ ebooks. Well, they are having one of those sales now, with a selection of some .99£ titles once again. There are about 50 or 51 of them this time. Thankfully, those of us in the Colonies can enjoy these great deals, even though our currency hasn't been based upon the pound since . . . . well, about 1776 or so. Doing a quick check of my fave currency converter, xe.com, I found that .99£ is only about $1.35 or so for us Yanks. Wow! Follow this link to get one or more of these great deals: https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/ebookpromotion. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 05-05-2018 at 05:08 PM. |
