Regarding pipe clogs.
If the clog is a build-up of soap and other organic sludge you might be able to keep things in running order with an enzyme treatment. This can be as simple as a cup of cheap yogurt or some milk that has gone sour. You can also buy granular enzyme/bacterial treatments commercially -- at least here in the states. My "Big 3" treatments are enzymes first, then chlorine bleach (hide it with the laundry supplies), then commercial de-cloggers. But (Important!) don't let them mix! Bleach especially can pose safety issues with some other cleaners. And if you still have to call a plumber, let him/her know if there might be some leftover chemicals in the pipe. I use the sour milk/yogurt/enzyme stuff all the time. I also use vinegar on a regular basis since we have a well and our water is very "hard." |

I know issybird said the board is getting hammered with them for the last couple of days. So if you get one, just delete. The mods are deleting the offending accounts as fast as they can, but unlike with regular board postings, they can't also delete all the PMs that the account posted.

Ubuntu has for some wonderfully terrible reason decided to offer no python binary at all in their latest release. So trying to install calibre fails with weird and wonderful errors: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=296602
Even more amusingly, they don't guarantee the /bin/sh shell is, like, usable. It did not take me long at all to find a way the new shellscript (which just searches for some sort of python-like binary and then re-calls the old python script) will fail too, but I cheated because I have past experience trying to rely on this. I'm wondering what the solution for universal scripting on Linux is supposed to be, according to Ubuntu. Maybe perl? Gah! A pox on stupid distros and their stupid politically-motivated harm to users who just want working things! |

This is frustrating. I've been looking for a good quality A4 sized sticker paper/label. The ones Avery and 123inkt.nl sell aren't good IMHO. They are too thin and when you print on them it looks very pale, as if the print has been bleached by the sun. I ordered a packet of 10 made by Herma. They print well, are thicker than the ones I tried before but the backing paper is cut in two so to make peeling it off easier. But that is not good for me; I print out the stickers and then use my plotter to kiss cut (cut only one layer of paper) the paper so I can peel off the stickers individually.
The only option I can easily get my hands on is the Staples A4 labels. But they don't sell them in small packages. I wouldn't mind getting a pack of 100 sheets if I knew how well it prints and if the backing is cut. I know that in the US Avery sell special sticker paper not meant for labeling but meant for hobby use. I know that is nice paper, but it's not available in the Netherlands. My father probably has to go to Staples tomorrow, so I might just tag along and have a look. Maybe the guys of the printing department have examples available. |
