Move the cursor to the top, move the joystick to the right, select title. Then type a "D" on the keyboard. You will be prompted to click to go to the start of the "D" titles. This functions similarly when you listed is sorted by author. In short, even if you have hundreds of titles, you will be able to arrive at the title you're looking for in seconds... |

The only thing keeping me from buying a kindle 2 is lack of folders. It isn't enough of an improvement without that vital feature, IMHO.

The cable is likely micro USB because a group of mobile device manufacturers agreed to use it as the standard for charging by 2012. Here's a short news article about it. You will be seeing more of that in the future so the cable won't seem nearly so unique in time.
As for folders, I would like them but I can manage to find things just fine with the sort and search capabilities I currently have. I would prefer to have folders or be able to add tags, though. |

That's assuming you know the title or author... I have over 200 books. I will often, while at a conference, hear about a book, look it up on my Kindle, and then buy it on the spot. If I could have a folder in which I could put books I plan to read (non-fiction) and another folder for books I plan to read (fiction) and one last folder for books I want to go back and re-read or consult - then I'd be fine. As it is I have to "browse" through all my books to find one that is unread when I have finished a book. I've never commented on this because others have - so what's left to say? But I think folders are a bigger deal than you think. |

Can't you do a search from the home screen?

If I keep all my unread books in memory. If I only want to keep those I am currently reading in memory I have to browse in the Archive folder (a folder!) to find what I want.
I'm sure I sound like I'm whining - I'm not. I love my Kindle and the lack of folders is one of the few things keeping it from being perfect. I'm also not trying to argue here - I totally get that folders are not an issue for a bunch of people (who are probably tired of people like me whining. <grin>) I just thought I'd try to help people understand why they matter to some of us. |

Folders, tags, collections.... I just want some way to organize all my books on the Kindle itself. I use Calibre to organize on the PC and would love to be able to organize my books on the Kindle, too. Once you get beyond a handful of pages of books it becomes laborious to find a particular book.

Okay, I have 27 pages of books.
Just about evenly divided by mystery and sci fi. Folders wouldn't help me much...... ![]() |

It depends how it's implemented. For example top level could be by genre, then series or author (some series aren't all written by the same author). On the Kindle I could see the top level divided into genres along with newspapers, blogs, magazines and personal documents. As you drill down there could be subfolders based on series and/or author. Right now Amazon puts all of your Amazon periodicals into folders so there's no reason it can't be done for everything else.
There still would need to be the option to see everything in a list as it is done now. |

One of the main reasons I went for the Sony PRS-505 was because it had collection support. I like carrying around a lot of ebooks with me and I did need some way beyond title and author sort to find what I'm looking for. The tag I use most often is my unread collection where I dump all stories I plan to read...though not sure how well that is working out it's already at 20 pages...sub folders would be rather helpful at this point...

Remember that the Kindle uses Linux as its OS.
IF the folder used by the Kindle's OS to store content is the /home folder I don't think it would be all that difficult to implement a change allowing users to create their own folders. BUT, if the Kindle OS utilizes any other location to store its content then allowing users to create their own folders could be very problematic. It may be that the use of metadata (tags) would be a better solution. |

What I don't understand is the need to use your K as a storage device. How many books can you read at one time? I am a one book at a time person, I realize some people read a few at time, but not 60+. All of your books are stored by Amazon or can be stored on your computer. I only want what I am actually reading on my K. I also enforce a personal rule, I do not buy a new book (even a free one) or even read a sample, till I finish the one I am reading.
This has helped me to keep my K clutter free and my bank account in check. |
