Tonight it's King's Night and tomorrow it's King's Day. Which means it'll be noisy with live music from the nearby square and a DJ playing at one of the cafés around the corner.
To make best of the situation I've selected a couple of (hopefully) noisy films, made sure I have spare batteries for my noise cancelling headphones. I also made pico de gallo to go with my nacho chips and I've bought a couple of bottles of my favourite organic soda. Officially the live music has to stop at 1am tonight. But experience learns it's usually around 2am before it quietens down enough to go to sleep. Tomorrow there will be live music and DJs from noon until 6pm and after that the big clean up begins with sweeper cars and leaf blowers to blow all the trash in from of the sweeper cars. |

Since I've decided to wear my contact lenses today I'm now taking the opportunity to treat myself to a facial mask. I hardly ever do this when wearing glasses, since I have to take them off and since my eyesight is so bad I end up giving my hair a mask, too. This is especially fun when using one of those peel off masks. I did that once without glasses or contacts, never again. I spend three days picking out bit of facial mask out of my hair.
Peace has returned again after King's Day. Although, to be honest, it wasn't too bad. The fact that there isn't a stage around the corner helps, but it was also a bit quieter than normal, it seemed. Probably a combination of the colder weather and the fact that the school May vacation started in our region yesterday (a lot of people are away). I'm curious how busy it will be in the store tomorrow. |

In three weeks time my sister and I are going to a theme park and spend two nights at one of their apartments. I'm bringing my Kindle with me, so I can continue with my normal reads. But for in the theme park I want to take a paperback book, so I can read when waiting in line and not have to worry about breaking my Kindle.
Last week I visited the local book store and I was somewhat shocked at the prices of the English paperbacks. I'm so used to ebook prices now I can't imaging paying €12.99 to €19,99 for a book anymore. Tomorrow I'm going to visit again and visit the basement where they sell the second hand books. We used to have another bookstore, which sold second hand books and overstock book that they bough, and sold, for low prices. You could find the weirdest books for only a couple of euros. They merged with another book chainstore and they went under not long after. My bookstore used to belong to the chain, but after bankruptcy it was taken over and is now an independent bookstore. I still love it, but I wish they had a bigger second hand section for English books. |

It looks like the weather will be great this weekend. I'm thinking of going on a cycle trip on Sunday. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to take my usual route of 20 miles the first cycle trip of the year.
I'm thinking of getting a simple navigation system for my bike. Hopefully it'll motivate me to cycle more and take other routes. The one I like, however, had some problems with a Windows 10 update and I can't find if that's been solved. I also need to find a new saddle, the material covering it is starting to dry out and crack. |

Say Wodin --- news says that a volcano is erupting on one of the Hawaiian islands, requiring some evacuation. How near are you? Any further scoop on the news?

Quote:
The break out is on Kilauea (one of three active volcanoes on the Big Island and the location of Volcanoes National Park) East Rift Zone. The term "break out" is used because Kilauea has been erupting continuously since January 1983, and this is just a different location of the vent. (Google Puʻu ʻŌʻō) Besides the 3 active volcanoes on the Big Island (Kilauea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai) there is also Haleakala on Maui, and Loihi which is under water and busy building another island. About 1000 people are being mandatory evacuated, and some houses may be destroyed in this break out, but that's the chance you take when you build in a volcanic risk zone 1 or 2. That's why insurance is so high there. Last edited by wodin; 05-04-2018 at 03:43 PM. Reason: Had too many islands |

I have reservations for three days in a cottage in the National Park in September. I sure hope this break out lasts until then, Ain't Mother Nature AWSOME?

Yeah, I'm a science geeky type, so I'm fascinated! Glad you are far away -- but also glad you may have a chance to ogle, later.
