I think maybe the Note is too much for me. This little simple device has seriously made my life much better.

Definitely not stock, but if rooted maybe? I think you know the answer though. The reMarkable does exactly what I need. It's a fantastic note pad and ereader. I keep it with me at all times and I love making templates to work more efficiently and share with others. It has completely solved my problems of having too many notebooks and not reading enough.

I don't (I never really checked until now), but I think it would struggle, given the constraints. Also,

Yes, multiple pages of notes for every pdf page works. But you couldn't have a note that spans a whole chapter, not that it would stay open for the whole chapter over multiple pdf pages.

Sadly FTP is no option at my university.

But what i mean is, when i write for example notes, or annotations on a pdf. I have to export those in their respected apps, this creates a file on the devices storage. If i then connect the Note to my pc, i can go into the storage of the Note but the exported files are missing. I then have to reboot the device, and after the reboot, the files are available for copying and so on. So it seems like a bad implementation of the export workflow.

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with Android MTP itself, not Onyx. It is prevalent in recent android versions when the OS started using MTP instead of "USB mass storage" protocol.

A solution other than a reboot is to force a media rescan. Some apps have this functionality, or you can search for specific apps (from playstore, f-droid, etc) that just have this function. If you are an advanced user, you can also use adb to transfer files.

I remember having this problem solved on my tablet, using FX File Manager. It has an option in the Menu like "Rescan Media" or "Rescan Directory", then the "missing" files would appear on the PC, possibly after a file manager update (F5).
Unfortunately, I deleted FX FM from my Max2 due to some problems with eink, so I can't test it again for the moment.

The comment from Mdp is correct. When there is sufficient power from the cpu more frames are added, I can take advantage of them by moving quicker along the page. This can be seen on my slower device on an eink friendly browser when I disable javascript. This did not seem apparent from watching online videos.

It's not easy (if you don't already have the device) to get a good idea of the "extra usability" of these ereaders. The videos online can be confusing, because they show not enough, or sub-optimal conditions/settings. I found this especially to the case with the videos of the n96 series browsing the internet. Of course, most people don't expect that anyone will use eink for a computer. But then why do people spend $1000 on a Paperlike?

In fact, after getting my n96ml (200 used!) I have been from the start very happy using the browser to read news, reviews, articles (someone else may not)

How pleasurable and fortunate to be using a computer that manipulates ink particles so I can sit out in the sun messing around on a linux based OS.

The one thing I do miss is the side by side notes of the Note.

There is no need to reboot, check in the App Store the app ScanMediaPlease from Zhuowei Zhang, just touch it (it will not show anything) and it will trigger the scan, works perfect.

IMPORTANT: Unplug and plug again the USB cable.

I noticed today that Android supports [ALT]+[TAB]. You do task switching pretty much the standard way.
