Cloud Library & Libby Library to Kindle PW

Is there any way to sideload an ebook borrowed from the library to my Kindle PW? I don't want to remove DRM just to read whilst on loan. My library used to use overdrive but now uses Cloud Library. Thanks!

cloudLibrary is currently not compatible with Kindle Paperwhites or the Kindle Apps. If you would like to read eBooks on your Kindle please email kindle-feedback@amazon.com and request that Amazon allow compatibility with cloudLibrary.

Cloud Library downloads epub files protected by Adobe DRM. Eink Kindles simply do not read epubs, and will not do so in the foreseeable future, no matter how many emails are written to Amazon. Cloud Library is simply passing the buck here. So to read on your eink Kindle you would need to convert the epub to a Kindle supported file. In order to do this you would need to remove the DRM. Neither Mobileread nor Apprentices Alf or Harper condone removing DRM from library books, or borrowed books in general.

That being the case the OP can borrow ebooks in Kindle formats from US libraries only. Unfortunately Overdrive does not offer Kindle formats in the case of non-US libraries. In which case the same reasoning applies. I'm sure that the OP has no intention of removing DRM from library books but even if this is not the case help in doing so would I suspect be hard to come by.

Could you provide a link? The last I heard was:

Advocating ebook piracy is not permitted. Detailed discussion of DRM removal is not permitted.

But there is now no specific restriction on discussion of DRM and library books.

And I don't see anything explicit in the guidelines.

MobileRead has no issue with removing DRM from library books for personal convenience, as in format-shifting. The assumption is that the file is treated as the original file, read in a timely manner and deleted.

Thanks everyone! So I cannot convert via Calibre and it just expires as if an ordinary library book? I don't know if I'm able to get a USA membership since I'm not from there.

See issybird's post above. It seems that Mobileread at least would have no problems with you removing the DRM from a library book, converting it to azw3 and reading it on your Kindle, provided you abide by the terms of the original library loan. This would essentially mean deleting the file at the end of the loan period.

Do you have Apprentice Alf's tools installed and working in Calibre?

This may be an issue where MobileRead and Apprentice Alf disagree.

The DeDRM Tools contains the message, "Cannot decode library or rented ebooks", although that restriction seems to often be ineffective. If you run in to trouble removing DRM from a library book you are unlikely to get help in fixing the problem.

Alf frames his restrictions as he will and in any case, we weren't going to offer any help with DRM-removal here. But if people want to acknowledge here the reality that they format-shift library books, that's ok by us.
