Finished Killing Floor by Lee Child. Did not hate. I particularly liked the intro to this omnibus where the author outlined some of the details behind the creation of the character and series.

At any rate, the first book was suspenseful and gripping, and I will at least read the next in the series.

Meanwhile, I am looking for a fantasy for my next read, no idea what it will be.

Oh, and I am finishing Lips Unsealed in hardcover. A memoir by Belinda Carlisle, it is a carefully outlined view of a fifty year trainwreck. I am happy to note that she finally grew up near the end of the book, but it was pretty painful to read at times.

No. If you want the final version, you have to buy it separately. That being said, there are rarely significant changes. You are paying for the privilege of getting it early. In this case, by six months.

Now onto A Talent for Murder by Andrew Wilson. A murder mystery featuring Agatha Christie.

I finished The Case with Nine Solutions by JJ Connington yesterday, a golden age crime novel from a writer who was apparently influential on the likes of Dorothy L Sayers and John Dickson Carr. It was OK - maybe a bit flat - but what particularly annoyed me was the note about the author at the end. Apparently he died in 1947, which means I left this book unread for long enough that it is now out of copyright. (Here in the UK, at least.)

Finished it. Decent book although it's a step down from The Story of the Stone which itself was a step down from the brilliant The Bridge of Birds so overall just good. Worth reading the trilogy though I think.

With a week to go I really should pick up Making History again (I did start it) but I went to the library yesterday and so I fancy squeezing in a short one, which is Emily St John Mandel's Last Night in Montreal. I loved Station Eleven and I'm hoping this will be good too.

I can't believe I keep reading these things. 800 pages, and more death and destruction than is even remotely required. Fortunately, it can be skimmed when you get to the stupid parts, which cuts the book about in half. I gave it 3 stars, but even that was a push.

I wasn't really tempted by the eArc, but now I'll definitely wait for the official release. Possibly for the paperback price drop, if it doesn't go on offer!

I'm afraid in the recent past I've been reading less as I've had less time to do so, but now I've got a bit more time these days to devote to it at the moment. To that end, I've purchased a few new eBooks to read, such as:

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
The Selection by Kiera Cass
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Not heard much about them to be honest, but if I remember right they all had a good amount of stars on Amazon.

I tried Shatter Me but I had to give it up. While the premise is good, the writing (first-person, histrionic teen, plus teen romance) just put me off.

Yeah, I should have known better! I did, actually, but it was moment of madness when I was trying to avoid the book I had started and wanted an excuse.

I've read Red Rising and gave it two stars. I liked the first half (original) but the rest became a Hunger Games clone (unoriginal).

That's a bit disappointing, but hopefully the writing won't bother me so much.
