Most of my ebooks are in lit format that I use Calibre to convert to lrf for the prs-700. I think the easiest format (for me) would be to consolidate the lit files and then convert them to lrf in Calibre, but I'm willing to convert them first and then consolidate them.
Thanks for any help. Lynn |

dhbailey - The ability to read all of them isn't the point -- the desire to be able to select what to read next from a large library is one of the very appealing aspects of ebooks, which I agree with Sealbeater about.
When I go into a bookstore, I don't expect to be confronted with only 300 titles. I expect to be able select from thousands. And I don't expect to be told, "Wait, we'll get something you want from the warehouse. Just wait and we'll empty these 300 titles and give you 300 more to select from!" When I am reading, sometimes I want to read a mystery, and sometimes I want to read a history and sometimes I want to read a biography and sometimes a music theory and sometimes a music history and sometimes a computer how-to and sometimes a humor book. And I quite often keep 4 or 5 books current at the same time. And I definitely like to go to my reference shelf (which isn't just a dictionary and thesaurus and atlas) and look things up. And I am tired of the arguments "you can only read one book at a time, why do you need 4000?" or "Reading at 1 book a day, it would take you over 11 years to get through your 4000." Do people who make such arguments really only keep a few books in their house at a time? Throwing out or giving away already-read books instead of leaving them on their bookshelves to re-read some day? I have to agree with Sealbeater and dhbaily on this. I have a 32 gig i pod and there are only about7 gigs left of space on it, i could listen to the thing for about 20 odd days to hear all the songs. But depending on my mood I have a wide variety of music to hand to suit me at the time and like a few other people if I want to hear a particular song and don't have it i generaly download it and I have it for when i want it. It's the same with my reader. I don't have near the amount that sealbeater has but good for him! I had about 2000 'real' books at one point, the collection took up a full walk in closet and i used to spend quite a bit of time in there deciding what to read next and reveled in the fact that I had choice to hand. I have long since gotten rid of those books ( well not me but my ex) but the principle is the same with the reader, all your books in one place with plenty of variety to suit the mood you are in. whats wrong with that? I love my reader and love the fact that I can take my entire library with me where ever I go. I have over 600 books on mine and for those of you who say you can only read so much well each to their own I say! I have already read 8 books this month alone. yeah I am a voratious reader so what? some people are and some people aren't. This whole 'It's crazy to have so many books on a reader' is rubbish, that is what it is made for. |

The simplest way is to have the books in HTML format, then make a simple HTML file which just links to each of them, and convert that to LRF using any2lrf with --link-levels=1. That will create a TOC with an entry for each book, and include all of the books in one file. |

With eBooks you select 1 to read... and you could be reading the same ebook for several days, a week or more. Also, "usually" (most people) will read a book and then not go back to it. At least not any time soon. So, the use case of an MP3 player and a ebook reader are totally different. You don't "NEED" 40k ebooks on your reader at a time, to get good enjoyment out of it. Would it be nice to have... sure. Will future gen devices make this more pratcical, I'm sure. Is it a reason to complain... obviously. Does it really make the device unuseable... certainly NOT. BOb |

Pilotbob is very right.
I remember getting the Reader about a year ago and being pissed off I couldn't get my entire ebook library on my shiny new device. My iPod holds my entire music library, so why should this be different, right? So I did what came naturally... I bitched and moaned. I conceded defeat, and transfered about 200 books I wanted to read to my Reader. Guess what? I still haven't gone through them all. I added several new ones that I bought along the way, and nope, still haven't read all of those either. Just FYI, I have a dozen or so books I bought that I haven't even transfered (and I have the space) just because there's no point until I go through my backlog. In the end, you have to stop thinking of the Reader as the iPod for books. It seems that way, but you just don't consume books the same way you consume music. 256mb of internal memory is much more than you need. You'll disagree with me now, but you'll come around... it takes time. |

I can't keep more than 60 books on my Sony without freaking me out. Every two weeks I delete books I have read, otherwise I get massively confused. I've never even gotten close to using 50% of the base memory.
I just can't understand the need for having that much memory other than the fact that you can (or can't, as the case may be). I'll concede for music, but I don't think a lot of people use that function. That's the thing I like a lot about my Reader. I can keep what I want on my PC and transfer what I want to read when I want to read it (but still have plenty of room for those "maybe I'll get in the mood for this" books). |

But that's ok. We've got the hardware and lots of screwdrivers, and patience and time. You guys go be content with your 200 books that you've never read, I'm going to be taking it to a different level. I emailed the developers of openinkpot to ask them to do what they can to have the reader read all the files, so hopefully that'll come soon. |

Sealbeater, you can read more than one book at a time on the Reader. When you switch, bookmark. Either open the book again or go to your bookmarks page (to see all books you have bookmarked).
And you have me at a loss for words. |
