Hey I have a question. Do y'all keep track of up coming books in series and if you how do you do it? In Calibre, out of calibre, on scraps of paper, etc? I never used to, but I just finished two books that I see have next-in-series coming out in the fall, and am wondering how to keep them on the radar.

FictFact is your friend. I am notified everytime one of my favorite authors puts out a new book in a series I'm reading.

I keep a list of Upcoming Releases in Word. I also have a books folder with separate lists of individual authors with their book info in order by pub date (title, date published, series info, and format). I keep the books highlighted in yellow until they're purchased.

I get emails from FictFact, too, but prefer to keep track myself.

I check out author websites, their newsletters, certain publisher websites (Harlequin, Carina Press, Penguin Random House, etc) as well as fictionDB and FantasticFiction.

Some authors are good about updating their coming soon pages, some....aren't

I don't add books in Calibre until I have the actual book.

Yeah I have so many Fictfact alerts I tend to ignore them it seems. The pre-order WL sounds like a good idea. I may need to try that!

I use a small calendar and write them all down as I come across what's coming out when. When I start seeing released for the next year, plenty of room at the back to write notes down until I get a new calendar.

I keep track completely digitally:
  • For all upcoming books of interest, whether in series or not, I keep track of their titles and release dates via the Business Tasks app (by Appgenix).
  • For fiction books in series, I also use FictFact.
  • Books I have bought or borrowed and will get to soon, after my current read, I mark as "In queue". That way, whenever I finish a book I know what's next.

I remember really loving O'Shea's 1st Jarvid Nine book. Not sure I ever read the other two, but wowzer! the difference in score between books 2 and 3 is quite severe! What made the 3rd one so bad??

It's a short novella. It takes place over an afternoon (mostly, if you don't count the 40 years the heroine time-travels into the future). It wasn't the time-travel or the quasi-HFN that bothered me. It was the total lack of resolution. WARNING: don't read if you want to remain spoiler-free.
Spoiler:
Alex, who is the secondary hero in both Ravyn’s Flight and Eternal Nights is in charge of the base (or maybe just base security, I forget). Anyway, when the heroine appeared in the pyramid they assume she's a spy. The hero is ordered to keep an eye on her and seduce her if needed, though Alex makes it clear he's not on board with that order. The hero tells the heroine all this. It made for a good built-in conflict. That's fine.

But then the author did NOTHING to resolve the issue. The hero talks the heroine into staying in the future rather than returning to her time. She reminds him TPTB think she's a spy (at this point the Western Alliance is in a new massive war, so the spy thing is serious). And the hero says they'll think of something. The end.

According to the author's blog she had planned to write more in the series. But the post is from back in 2013, so I'm not holding my breath.

I loved the characters in the first book, but had issues with the plot resolution. (I read it in 2014 and gave it a B+). Not sure why I let the second book languish in my TBR for so long, but I quite enjoyed it. The secondary couple from the first book had their storyarc resolved and the main couple from the first book also put in an appearance. But the main couple from book two are two new characters.

I read the third "book" knowing it was more of a short story (even calling it a novella is a stretch), but I still expected more of a complete story. It read more like a excerpt to me. YMMV. (it was originally published in the Mammoth Book of Time Travel Romance but I bought the whole series individually at Kobo back in 2013).

Sorry for the rant. I'm still ticked off about it apparently

I have a spreadsheet in the cloud where I list the books I want to buy and the date of release if they are not yet on sale. I used to have it in the PC but sometimes I came across a book when I had no access to the file so now I can add it at any time.

I also have a spreadsheet for the books that I have read, it goes back 20+ years with graphs and everything. It is helpful when I’m looking at a book that sounds familiar, I can check the list to see if I’ve read it or not.

I also have a spreadsheet (in Google Sheets) although I'm not as diligent about keeping it up to date as I used to be.

In calibre, in a separate library with publishing date and I use it to search for them at the libraries.

Nope, no collections via Calibre. Personally if I was using a Fire for reading I'd use Calibre Companion both as my on device library (can view and sort just like in Calibre) and to transfer books from Calibre to the device wirelessly.

An omnibus of the first three books (although not including the prequel) in the Escape to New Zealand series by Rosalind James is free right now at Kindle US. I don't read a lot of contemporary romance, but got started on this series when the first title alone was free a long time ago, and quite enjoy it. Now here are the first three for free...

link: https://www.amazon.com/Escape-New-Ze...dp/B00RY2IC0M/

Spoiler:
Quote:
She wanted an escape to New Zealand. She got a rugby god.

Three bestselling sweet and steamy New Zealand rugby romances--Just This Once, Just Good Friends, Just for Now.

Book One - Just This Once: (Audie nominee, Best Romance Audiobook, 2015) Everyone needs to be rescued sometimes. Everyone but Hannah Montgomery, that is. She just needs a vacation. Three weeks in New Zealand to sort out her life, figure out what she wants, seems just right. Oh, and to relax. She should definitely put that on the agenda. She certainly isn't looking for a sexy fling with a professional rugby player, no matter how attractive he is. Hannah doesn't do casual. But maybe just this once ...

Book Two - Just Good Friends: Some bets were made to be lost. Kate Lamonica can't believe she's made a bet to be "just friends" with playboy star Koti James. New Zealand had seemed like the perfect escape from the stalker who'd threatened first her peace of mind, and then her life. She certainly doesn't need any more trouble. Why on earth has she agreed to spend time with a Maori rugby player who's far too handsome and charming for his own good--and knows it? But there's more than one game Koti's good at playing ...

Book Three - Just for Now: There's no place like home ... For teacher Jenna McKnight, nothing spells "heartbreak" like finding her husband with somebody else--in her bed. It's clearly time to reinvent herself. A new body, a new city, and a new job later, she's done just that. The beautiful Auckland villa isn't really her home, though. Finn Douglas and his kids aren't really her family, however much she wishes they were. And playing house can be a dangerous game.
