Calibre not detecting replacement Kobo Aura
I'm a bit computer illiterate so confused why Calibre recognised my original Kobo Aura on my laptop with windows vista home premium and Calibre version 1.48 - but now the I have just got a replacement Kobo Aura Cpthat Calibre does not recognise it.
I took your advice and tried to install Calibre version 2.67 but get a message saying it won't work with Windows XP - but as you can see above I have windows vista home premium so why does it keep indicating I have XP. Also, if the previous Kobo Aura worked on my laptop with Calibre 1.48, why won't it recognise new Kobo Aura. Sorry to be a pain but it' doing my head in. |

So what device do you actually have? And I would recommend starting a separate thread for this discussion. Your problem would be better separated from the main purpose of this thread. For the calibre version problem, I don't know. My understanding is that calibre still supports Windows Vista. But, maybe I missed some announcement about that. The only things I can think of is to make sure you aren't running the installer in a compatibility mode that tells the application it is running in Windows XP (I know it can be done, but I never needed it, so I don't know how to check). Or that you haven't downloaded the 64 bit version of calibre and are attempting to install it on a 32 bit version of Windows. I wouldn't expect the error you are seeing if this was the case, but the combination of errors might be confusing the installer. |

Finally I can join in here! Although obviously I'm 18 months behind
![]() Got my Kobo Aura One yesterday (following more than 5.5 years on a Kobo Glo, whose new assignment is travel reader ![]() I don't know if I lucked out on a screen, but aside from extremely subtle smudging along the borders (no where close to any writing), and the slightest extra redness of a 2cm square section at the bottom centre (obviously only with the comfort light on, and only visible with in a dark room), it is PERFECT. No pin holes, no unevenness, no glowing lines around the edges (which was very prominent on my glo) or light leaks, and no dreaded green splotch. I have super sensitive eyes, so I can't adjust for unevenness by changing the brightness. I'm surprised at how orange I want to read at at night (although admittedly on 1% brightness, so still subtle compared to very orange at 100%), and since I usually also read before I am fully awake in the morning means I can gradually lessen the orange as I wake up, which is much more natural (and important since I have blackout curtains). It's super sharp and very good contrast (although I can see people who hate any grey in the background might complain...but the words are super black!), and of course the big screen is so much easier to read on than the little 6-inch glo. I don't mind the capacitive screen so far (although I do sometimes have extra dry skin that can make them less reactive....guess I will just need to be less lazy about hand cream!) and I like how thin and light it is! I find the screen super fast to react, turn pages, open the dictionary (although I obviously am comparing this to the glo....but I have used my parents aura hd and aura h2o) and a the moment I've only read kepubs on it. Overdrive integration is great. I've already used pocket on my glo. I like the new pin lock feature. The home screen is ok. I wish it still showed the extra info of whether the book you are reading has annotations...actually I wish long pressing books allowed you to just open annotations. I don't like opening a book that I've already finished (or one that is marked as unread) just to check if there are any annotations...but probably I'm one of the few people who cares. I would just like a central place to look at annotations, regardless of the book they are in, and which wouldn't change the read-status by looking at them. I know you can extract them on a pc, but I want to just look at them without ever using a pc. I also wish I could "manage" my overdrive account via the reader, like I can in the app. ie: wishlist, managing holds, etc. The only two things I could see to do is check a book out or place a hold. I have both my pc and phone off at night, so it would be nice if I could do that sort of thing via my reader. I do like that when I'm in my book list, it allows me to filter more things, including overdrive, downloaded and imported....I would also like a "not downloaded/not on device" filter. But in general....a very happy camper! err...reader! Edit: how could I forget my new bath buddy! Of course one of the best features of all ![]() Last edited by Uschiekid; 03-23-2018 at 06:13 PM. |

You can also search all annotations from the search dialog. Just select "Annotations" in the drop-down at the end of the entry field. |

Oh boy, do I feel foolish!!!! ![]() I had even suspected that such a feature might be available via long press, and I swear I had tried it out by adding random annotations, but hadn't seen anything in the long press menu. Of course, now, it works every time ![]() The one reason it may not have worked is, when I was going back in to the book menu yesterday, it wouldn't immediately update the order of the books (I had it filtered to "Reading", with sort as "Recent"). I had been reading a book for awhile, used the top left menu to go back to My Books, and both the order of the books and the percent read didn't update until I went to the home screen and back. It happened a number of times, but of course it immediately updates when I try to reproduce it today. Anyway, if it hadn't updated yet, maybe that's why the annotations hadn't shown as an option. And I was too impatient and just erased the random annotation, without checking at a later period. Yesterday was a bit of weirdness all day, as the other weird thing that happened was I started to download my pocket archive (it had previously already downloaded my reading section), and I tried to open an article (that appeared to have completed dling), and it opened, I tried to move to the next (2nd) page, and it caused an immediate forced reboot. This happened 4 times in a row (three times with the same article, and once with another article). It was a quick reboot, but worrying. The wifi didn't have a chance to connect in between, so all the articles might have stayed in the same state during those 4 reboots. Then I gave it time to reconnect properly, as well as a bit longer to keep downloading the articles, and I couldn't reproduce it at all. If I tried to open one that was visibly downloading, it just asked if I wanted to cancel the download, if I tried to open one that had just stopped showing the download progress (so seemed to be done), it would again ask if I wanted to cancel the dl, and if I waited until the next had started to dl, it would open with no issues and let me flip through the pages, no problem. It hasn't rebooted in any other context either. So it was probably a weird anomaly, and iirc you don't use pocket, so probably haven't come across anything like that in your testing. Since I won't be doing a similar thing unless I do a factory reset, it's a bit hard to know whether it would happen again or not. |

What I am saying was that for a short time, things were NOT being immediately updated. I would be reading a book, decide to go to another book and when I initially went into My Books, the previous reading percentage ie: 4% was still there and if it wasn't the last book I had read before that session, it wasn't the first on the list. Staying on that page, it wouldn't auto-update those two things. However, if I changed to another page and then went back, the percentage would now read 6% or whatever and it would be first on the list. I was sort of experimenting and reading for short bouts testing various things, and I saw this happen at least 10 times. HOWEVER, this only happened for a limited time (hours?) on the day I got it. Not at any other time since then. Now, it always behaves as expected and updates all information immediately. IIRC it had at this point the most recent firmware (I did use it for a short spell, maybe an hour, on the original firmware as the internet was cutting in and out and so didn't get the new firmware downloaded or installed immediately). It never happens now. But my point was, if this page refreshing was failing at that point, the new menu item may not have been added. As you say, it always shows it immediately now. But the other latency I was seeing at the same time I was doing the annotations experiments is also gone. Doesn't matter too much, it works now. Well, I definitely was on the newest firmware when I had that reboot happening. In my case, it was only after I tried to swipe to the second page. It had no problem opening it. But as it's no longer reproducible, it's probably not important. But nice to know that it is pocket related and not my device being unreliable. |

strange behavior
My One had a hiccup this morning. I connected it, downloaded reading position, deleted a couple of books from the device, uploaded another, updated metadata, all standard procedure before syncing the Glo HD I use for public transport. And when I disconnected it, I was surprised to see the home screen with the first tier of a new device, then it went dark for uploading the new book, but it took a very long time, and at the end showed me only 517 books and no pocket articles.
So I connected it again, and Calibre saw the 3654 books it was supposed to have, and an OK database. After disconnecting, I saw 3658 books: mine plus 1 extracts and 3 "bought" books (one extract and two public domain to be downloaded). My Pocket articles were back too, without any syncing, and the home page was back to what it should be. The Glo HD had no such problems. |

I'm not sure if this will be useful to anyone else, but it made a big difference to me, so I thought I would mention it.
When trying to look up a word in the dictionary (or highlight a passage), I find it much more accurate if I use the very tip of my finger to touch the exact word I want, then roll down on to the ball of my finger tip (heading exactly "south" of the word, while leaving the tip still touching the word). If I then want to highlight from there, after the line has appeared, I continue to highlight. This is very different from how I would do it on my glo, and in fact, if I try this method, the rolling action will just cause it to start highlighting (even if I'm still on the other line of text). On the Aura One, it increased both my accuracy for word chosen and accuracy to initiate the look-up/highlight feature. |

My Aura One won't recognize it's connected to a computer when I plug it in to my Surfacebook. It'll work with my Dell XPS but not the Surface. Anything I can do to fix that?

I had the same problem when I bought my first Surface Book (in February 2016). I opened a thread about it, where you will find a way around and explanation. Here is a link https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...99#post3269299 |

Am I missing something or is there no rotation at all supported? Not looking for landscape, more to rotate 180 degrees so I can hold the reader by my cover in the left hand (with a finger sandwiched between the reader and cover for a lower effort hold).

You can rotate PDF and CBZ or CBR, but epubs and kepubs don't have any sort of rotation.
