Well, this was not your usual Arthurian tale. Many strange things just appear out of thin air ... literally. While this was fun, I would have liked a little more character development (unusual I know) especially background info on Terence and, basically, the whole world in general. All-in-all this was a good start for this series that probably develops over time. Rated C [3 stars].

Next, something from Piers Anthony whatever my library has available.

I just finished the steampunk novel Unseemly Science by Rod Duncan, the second book in his "Fall of the Gas-Lit Empire" series. I quite enjoyed it. I discovered the series when I was looking through the book lists of people I follow on Goodreads, trying to find books I hadn't heard of. It was on Felicia Day's list and she liked the series quite a bit. I read the first book in the series last fall and enjoyed it. I'm hoping to read the third book down the road. In the meantime, though, I'll get back to the books I bought over the holidays.

Love this book. I mean, it was painful to read because the protagonist is suffering through mental illness the whole way through, but because of my own mental health issues (and me thinking, "there but for the Grace of God go I), it was a compelling and ultimately satisfying read.
Were you aware that Planetfall is the first of a trilogy? The second book, After Atlas, references some of the characters and events of Planetfall, but takes place on Earth. The third book in the trilogy, Before Mars, is scheduled for release on 17 April 2018.

Did not know. Looking them up as we speak. Aaaand, After Atlas is available at my library! W00t

Meanwhile, I shall be finishing up The Tinkerer's Daughter, which should really be The Tinkerman's daughter, but I guess there is a folk song out there with that name so they had to go with a crappier title... ANYHOW. Halfway through said book.

Not bad. I'm always wary of overly criticizing an acknowledged classic because it probably means I just didn't get it. But it's short and the language is simple and the story straightforward. Maybe I'll re-read it at some point.

Speaking of which, I think I'm going to re-read The Old Man and the Sea so it's fresh in my mind for the NLBC on thursday.

After that, not sure, have a couple of possibles.

Just finished Robicheaux by James Lee Burke and it was very good; much like his earlier novels.

Next up The Future of Humanity by Michio Kaku. Every one of his books have been excellent and I’m looking forward to this one.

Now reading Shattering the Ley, by Joseph Palmetier. Started well, but kind of fading as we go on. We'll see. Also re-reading The Old Man and the Sea for the New Leaf Book Club discussion starting Thursday.
Finished Shattering the Ley. No better than 3 stars. I rather doubt I'll read the later books in the series.

Also finished my re-read of The Old Man and the Sea, by Earnest Hemingway. This for the New Leaf Book Club discussion starting now.

Plowed through Terms of Enlistment by Marko Kloos. I have bought the next two books in the series. We will see how they hold up.

Meanwhile, I am starting Hell's princess: The Mystery of Belle Gunness, Butcher of Men by Harold Schechter; a Freebie this month.

I succumbed to a "bargain" bundle, and ended up with 7 books for a reasonable price if I like and read all of them. Bad decision, but there it is. The first I'm reading from this bundle is Spots the Space Marine: Defense of the Fiddler, by M.C.A. Hogarth. OK, not great. The writing style definitely put me off at the beginning, but I've gotten past that and am enjoying it. This will be a 3 star read. OK, but not compelling. And not at all challenging or enlightening.

I finished All Our Wrong Todays which was nominated for the April slot in NLBC but didn't win. It was odd. It's a time-travel/alternate history story which I thought was going to be light-hearted and it was, until it took a dark turn, then took a turn back.

Finished. As with most historical mysteries, there remains much unresolved. I thought this one was fairly well researched, though.

Next is Lines of Departure by Marko Kloos.

Finished Night Train to Rigel from Timothy Zahn, book 1 of his Quadrail series. It was an entertaining read.

Next up, I am going to finish A Call to Arms and A Call to Vengeance. If only I could remember what happened in A Call to Duty it has been a while.

Can anyone who has read A Call to Vengeance (lookin' at you pdurrant!) let me know if it ends? I thought the intent in the beginning was to be just 3 books but since Honor Harrington was only going be 5 books you never know

Most enjoyable, although I've given 4/5 because of some silly digressions in character voice on the derivation of some English words.

Then I read "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. Not what I expected, but a good, quick read. It seems that the others in the quintet are not yet available in ebook format.

Now for "The Clocks" by Agatha Christie.

Just finished "Hour Game" by David Baldacci, the second book in the "King and Maxwell" series about a duo of former Secret Service agents turned private detective in a small Virginia town. A very enjoyable story about the search for a serial killer. Recommended!

I've also recently finished "Queen of Demons", which is the second book in the six-book "Lord of the Isles" series by David Drake. Drake is best known for his military SF, but he does also write fantasy, and this is a pretty good series. It's the much-used "Boy who grew up in a small village discovers he is the rightful heir to the throne" fantasy trope, but nicely done. It was rather a slow start in the first book in the series (the eponymously titled "Lord of the Isles") but it really picked up in this second book and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Also "Silks", by Dick Francis and Felix Francis. A very enjoyable story about a barrister (the name given to a British lawyer who represents clients in a criminal court) and amateur jockey, who is threatened by a psychopathic client whom he failed to successfully defend in court. (The book's title is a pun: "silks" refers to both the tunic that a jockey wears, and is also the nickname given to a QC - a "Queen's Counsel" - an eminent lawyer.)
