I have not heard half a rumour about the production plan...
I have basically not even started using the current one!

Are you affiliated with Onyx in any sort of way?

Some weeks ago I was browsing the forum and skim read a lot of posts, one of which from Booxtor, where I think he mentioned something about a new version come summer. But I cannot find his post, so it might be that I got it mixed. Is it so funny that they'd release a version with some changes in 2018?

What I was hoping for was a lighter device and hardware that could handle Android N, which is from 2016.

No, I am just attentive to the news.

No, it's just that to my perception, the "Max2" just arrived.
And, I perceive it as a pretty stable hardware configuration... I would join the voices that call it a time to consolidate the software.

EDIT:
THANK YOU! Now I know what we are missing... The "Linux Desktop" version!
But that can be fixed with a firmware.

I wish your hopes could be fulfilled, but I do not see much space for trimming... Maybe a sleek carbonium chassis edition? The screen is only 80 grams, and they can hardly touch board and battery.
OS: I would bet that Marshmallow will be there for a bit... They just adopted it.

From what I recall, there was initially some talk about releasing 64GB models of both the Max 2 and the Note with a possible rollout this autumn. But haven't heard anything about that in some time.

Hadn't heard about any other new hardware features for either model except a possible HDMI port for the Note.

Will it happen? Your guess is as good as mine.

It's just, I am skeptical about CMY without the K. I understand one less ink to manage is a hassle less, but Cyan+Magenta+Yellow = brown to my experience...
Maybe that's why they are going for "signage". Not just the 2 seconds refresh time, but brown can replace black in a poster, not in "textbooks' paragraphs".
Actually from their web site the fourth color is white. See E Ink color in our wiki. The colors are transparent to some degree so darkness will represent black. It is not clear when this sort of technology will appear in an eBook Reader but I suspect more changes are needed.

Great, I never came across to that piece of information.
So they are using white to screen the particles kept below, hidden...
The 5bits per ink idea remains. (Unfortunately, also my skepticism of obtaining black through mixing three saturated inks.)

I share your concern. The Triton eInk screens I've seen have all had wishywashy unsaturated colour.

Thanks for the information. When skim reading it must be the rumors about a 64 gigabyte version I picked up. I am not sure if I need all that storage though, so if they indeed make it, and that's all they offer, then it's barely an improvement.

Yes, in another thread a user wrote about the heavy chassis, which seems easy and fairly cheap to improve.

yup, I agree. this is no longer only an ereader. its basically android tablet with eink screen. not acceptable to have 32GB memory without any possibility of expansion when you are paying 500+€ for that device.

I will try connecting a USB-C mini-SD card reader to the Boox Note as soon as I receive it. Perhaps that will work for expanding storage.

Why do you need a SD card slot? I store every single e-book I own in the cloud and access the books via FBreader, whether they are epub, mobi or pdf files.

For me, the main use of a large-screen device is to read PDFs, and even 64GB is really not very much storage if you have a large collection of PDFs. I have an iPad with 512GB storage, and it currently has over 300GB of PDFs on it.

My device is airgapped for security - no Internet.
Also, some of the files I use are huge.

Harry beat me in size (but we converge on the order of magnitude).
