Delphi Classics, in acknowledgment of the Ides of March and the death of a notable character in history on or about that time, is giving away Julius Caesar. Regular price $1.99. No, this is not the work of Shakespeare (or whoever the experts have decided wrote the works that are known under his name. Ack!). This is non-fiction.

The blurb:
One of history’s most monumental figures, the Roman politician and general Julius Caesar played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. A celebrated author of Latin prose, Caesar wrote detailed accounts of his military campaigns, composed in a vigorous, concise and unemotional style in the third person. These invaluable historical sources provide an engaging window into the world of the Roman army during the Republican. Delphi’s Ancient Classics series provides eReaders with the wisdom of the Classical world, with both English translations and the original Latin texts. This comprehensive eBook presents Julius Caesar’s complete extant works, with illustrations, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 2)

The deal is good through Sunday night, March 18, 2018, presumably at midnight EST.

https://www.delphiclassics.com/shop/julius-caesar/.

Download(s) available in one or both of the following formats: kindle (prc) and ePub.

You must have, or set up, an account before completing your order.

Oh, one word of caution: beware the Ides of March.

Can't beat free.

I initially thought that this might be a person's commentary on the Senate Intelligence Committee Report on Torture, not the report itself, since it is published, or at least sold, by a private publishing concern. But it appears that it is, in fact, the report itself.

The U.S. Federal Government has tons of publications available. Seems like I heard, years ago, that the U.S. Federal Government is the largest publisher in the world, and I wouldn't be surprised if that is true.

There's no point, of course, in a MobileReader looking for the report from the federal government, what with you giving a link to a publisher who is offering the report free, and in several formats at that.

But, for future reference, here are some links to places in the federal government where you can acquire publications or, at least, find out what they publish. Some of the publications are for sale, but many are free:
U.S. Government Publishing Office.
A Searchable Catalog of U.S. Government Publications.
The U.S. Government Bookstore.

I'm sure that one or more of you who are residents of the U.S. will be thrilled to know that you conveniently can pick up forms for your 2017 Federal Taxes on one or more of those sites.

Search works for me in xpdf.

archive.org wayback machine has a captured (earlier?) version, which is also searchable. It lacks the cover letter, table of contents, and has a couple hundred fewer pages.

Perhaps the reason that Melville House cleaned it up and reprinted it?

That prompts the question: are federal government documents automatically in the public domain? If so, it looks like anyone could modify them, reprint them, sell them, etc. Or, maybe the government granted a special dispensation in this case, realizing what a mess that they had on their hands.

I think that it would be interesting to know those things.

Yes. The only exception is documents produced by agencies that are government funded, but not themselves part of the government.

Not that I would do something like this, but it looks like reprinting federal documents (after cleaning them up beforehand, if necessary) might be a lucrative business. Most people would have no idea that they could get the same things (sans the cleaning up part, if it was necessary) free, if they just knew where to look. Perhaps that is at least part of Melville House's modus operandi in order to generate some of their income.

Air Heroes of World War II by Robert Jackson

The story of ordinary people performing extraordinary feats, often with great courage.

That's courage in the air, from a valiant low-level attack by RAF bombers on the German fleet on the second day of the war, to a suicidal, lone dive against a Japanese destroyer by a navy pilot when the war was almost over.

Robert Jackson was born in 1941 in the North Yorkshire village of Melsonby. A former pilot and navigation instructor, his active involvement with aviation lasted many years. He has written more than forty nonfiction works on military affairs and is also the author of the popular Yeoman series of novels.

Money Changes Everything - $1.99

Money Changes Everything: Twenty-Two Writers Tackle the Last Taboo with Tales of Sudden Windfalls, Staggering Debts, and Other Surprising Turns of Fortune
essay collection edited by Jenny Offill & Elissa Schappell

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PDZFN4/
https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/mon...ges-everything

Spoiler:
The editors of The Friend Who Got Away are back with a new anthology that will do for money what they did for women’s friendships.

Ours is a culture of confession, yet money remains a distinctly taboo subject for most Americans. In this riveting anthology, a host of celebrated writers explore the complicated role money has played in their lives, whether they’re hiding from creditors or hiding a trust fund. This collection will touch a nerve with anyone who’s ever been afraid to reveal their bank balance.

In these wide-ranging personal essays, Daniel Handler, Walter Kirn, Jill McCorkle, Meera Nair, Henry Alford, Susan Choi, and other acclaimed authors write with startling candor about how money has strengthened or undermined their closest relationships. Isabel Rose talks about the trials and tribulations of dating as an heiress. Tony Serra explains what led him to take a forty-year vow of poverty. September 11 widow Marian Fontana illuminates the heartbreak and moral complexities of victim compensation. Jonathan Dee reveals the debt that nearly did him in. And in paired essays, Fred Leebron and his wife Katherine Rhett discuss the way fights over money have shaken their marriage to the core again and again.

We talk openly about our romantic disasters and family dramas, our problems at work and our battles with addiction. But when it comes to what is or is not in our wallets, we remain determinedly mum. Until now, that is. Money Changes Everything is the first anthology of its kind—an unflinching and on-the-record collection of essays filled with entertaining and enlightening insights into why we spend, save, and steal.

The pieces in Money Changes Everything range from the comic to the harrowing, yet they all reveal the complex, emotionally charged role money plays in our lives by shattering the wall of silence that has long surrounded this topic.

Well, I've found that my personal 'eff' it list grows on an almost Daily basis. For instance, I have stopped hugging people I don't particularly like. I know I'm lovable! But DAMN! No, I don't need a hug!
