But I have to do some criticism:

1) I also noticed some marks at the points where I erased with the top of the nib. It is something that does not bother you and that you notice only if you notice, but the problem is that it is UNACCEPTABLE that these signs are formed. I believe that a serious company is required to verify these aspects before marketing a product. I now only gate with the tip of the nib selecting the rubber, but now the damage is done and theoretically I could request the replacement of the Max 2 or at least the screen. I do not do it because, again, the problem is not annoying.

2) I purchased from Ereader Store in November 2017 and the Max 2 arrived with the first shipment. I did not like the launch price policy which then remained the same even after. We who first bought it took a closed box product. I do not want others to pay more, but I do not even want to pay more. Our trust at the moment is rewarded with the nib without clip and with the display being scratched. Who buys it now has instead the nib with the clip and knows the problem of scratches ...

This is not good. But do you think that using a different stylus could 'solve' the problem of scratches? Would a soft nib, say carbon fiber or rubber, be preferable in this regard?

I scratched (a minor bit but nonetheless) my i86 just by resting it face down on a common non flat surface (cement etc.).
Unless you use the device in laboratory conditions, you need a disposable protection layer for the screen more than you would need it for glass.

@ rogerpiano is definitely exaggerating the problem. The stylus has already a very delicate tip which slides smoothly over the surface. The rubber, that is the other side of the stylus, is not that smooth though. Myself I don't use the pressure-sensitive writing mode as I prefer to slide the pen effortlessly and always draw with fixed width to my liking. It is a little annoying that the Max always default to pressure-sensitive writing mode. This should be configurable in the general device settings.

Nonetheless the screen surface is a bit soft. I have never used screen protectors on my devices and never got scratches. On my Max2 I already can spot "microscopic" scratches when looking thoroughly under strong light. It's something that did not happened through a year with my Max (it still looks pristine). I guess that under my use the screen surface may exhibit some wear out after two or three years. I think that the eraser side of the pen may have caused the scratches, as suggested by others. I'll rather use the software erase mode from now on.

Thanks, plusz, good to know! I will too avoid the eraser part of the pen, looks like it could cure the issue.

I have to say my stylus is also leaving marks on the screen so I'm going to stop using it for the time being or be very very careful. Not ideal...

Is this the eraser part of the stylus, or also the writing tip?

weird, I used for years the stylus on a dr1000s and never got a scratch on the screen, and I think they are the same coating.

Maybe dusty environment? If not, just try a screen protector

The eraser is fine, it's the tip that sometimes feels as if it's scratching the screen and leaves traces of what I've written that mostly go away if rubbed.

I successfully connected a USB pen to my Max2 using a *powered* USB hub. If you need SD, probably you can buy a USB hub with builtin SD reader.
For example, one like this
could work (not tried!).

The only drawback is that you need to plug the hub power charger.

So were you able to mount the USB Pen and have its contents appear under storage?

You could try a OTG cable that has an extra input for power and plug in a powerbank to it - relatively easy pocketable and independent of an outlet.

If it did not show up, it would not have been successful, I would think.

Lately, I noticed that while on the "storage" screen (which is where I need to be to select among my many PDF files), the "Forward/Backward" buttons on my Max 2 control the volume, which is something I absolutely never use; and I am lacking a simple way to navigate the rather long list of files I have in some folders.

I seem to remember that the buttons used to move forward/backward one page in this screen, so I suppose I must have ticked the wrong option somewhere. How do I get back to the navigation buttons I love?

To expand on what mdp said, there is a circular icon to the right of the clock (and to the left of the icon that toggles between A2 and normal). In one mode they display a + and - next to each other within the circle, and in another mode they display two triangles facing away from each other. Tapping that icon toggles a mode switch.
