I'm looking to officially start a rumor; I just need help figuring out which one. Rumor #1: Amazon has bought Tantor Media and put the guy who used to be in charge of the Whispersync of the Month deal in charge of their website. Rumor #2: Tantor recently bought from Amazon a Used office clock with calender; picking a cheap "Acceptable" condition item, it looks like they got one selling from the now defunct Whispersync of the Month office.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman's Herland, first published in 1915, is a feminist utopian novel that describes an isolated society composed entirely of women—a progressive, environmentally conscious land where peace and rationality reign and poverty is unknown. Told from the perspective of Vandyk Jennings, a male sociology student who sets out with his two friends to determine whether Herland really exists, the novel ironically and pointedly critiques the arbitrary nature of many gender norms as it highlights the irrational features of the men's society and asserts women's fundamental capacity for reason and cooperation. Herland is a landmark work of feminist thought whose themes are as vital today as they were in the early twentieth century.

Fwiw, on Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, there are several free kindle versions, and one of them has a 99 cent whispersync version. It may not be as good as the Nick Offerman reading, but the ratings look ok.

Thanks for the heads up.

The "Inactive Light" members apparently _are_ considered real members for the purpose of this sale.

There are a lot of repeats. If you go to the "new releases category, however, I think that you can avoid all of the oldie but moldies.

$6.95 seems like a high price point. I hope that that is not a harbinger of things to come with future sales from Audible.

It's in line with the way most WhisperSync prices were jacked up roughly four-fold, so I suspect it is.

I used the word "apparently," because there is a teensie weensie element of doubt in my mind. The sale appeared on the Audible homepage (in the past, it didn't show up for us); I clicked on an item and the item's page showed up, with the $6.95 price showing . . . . I did just about everything except place the order. If someone will give me $6.95, I'll be glad to check that, too.

Another heads up . . . . at least I don't remember seeing this posted before. I noticed that Audible has a new package program. For $14.95 per month, you can get maybe a credit or two, and streaming of many other books in the particular subgenre that you choose (romance, history, thriller, et al.).

If anyone is interested, and can't find information about it on Audible's webpage, I'll try to find out where I saw that information on Audible.

The Audible deal doesn't seem to be a deal at all; I think someone at Audible forgot to reset the price.

The Downpour deal is a brand-new book; I just got it from my library a week or so ago. It's OK, but it's not suspense, as the publisher has categorized it. There are murders, but the story is more about how those murders affect three of the people in the community and less about the who and why of the murders. It's a decent book, and I would have liked it a lot more if I hadn't been expecting suspense and twists.
