But it is nice to have alternatives, and Onyx has already a foot in there, and I would be glad if they jumped in. Quote:
EDIT: unfortunately, again a curved edge, which is a cretin idea. How are you supposed to orient it to avoid light reflections? Are they drunk when they design devices? Last edited by mdp; 01-30-2018 at 03:47 AM. |

![]() It certainly boggles the mind regarding some of the decisions that have been made. For most intended purposes, phones do not need to be aerodynamic. |

I would recommend Yotaphone 2, if you’re lucky enough to get one that doesn’t overheat and fail.
It can be flashed to a more recent android. One of the bumper cases might help with the curve. You could use otg to connect a small microsd adapter. Not perfect, but most people don’t care about eink in a phone. If yotaphone 3 has a more reliable screen, I will buy as many of them as I can. |

Yes, that's the idea: one matte screen above, one below, and a buffer around.
I think that should already be the kit... Quote:

Today I received a answer of Yotaphone to my question about if they have any news to start selling the Yotaphone on Europe. They almost just said "NO" Last edited by eReader fan; 02-21-2018 at 09:06 PM. |

@Waitingforsomething In this 5 days ago video we can see the Hisense a2 pro while the two guys who are talking about it shows the selfie possibilitites with eInk and there no flashes on it
It even seems that the refreshing during normal eink use is better than the Yotaphone because it only refreshes the zones that the phone detects it's needed. With android 4 and 6 the screen refresh was in the whole screen in every movement, and with the android 6 it neves happend but losssing some definition and ontrast, making the google maps a little dificult to use |

I wish I had the time and energy to make more useful and informative posts here about these subjects, which are of great importance to me, but I can only quickly search and write my thoughts.
Quote:
All I can share is what I saw already about a2 mode. One redditor says: “when using the e-ink screen it does a full screen refresh quite frequently. If this can be changed it was not immediately obvious how to do so. so every now and again what you are looking at will disappear for a moment. however it still responds to touches when it is blank for a second so you don't lose any typing or anything. I don't find it too bad - I got used to it quickly. maybe they will release a setting to change this as most of the time the refreshes do not seem to be necessary as there is rarely any ghosting on this screen..” While a Russian YouTuber, on the other hand, said it was infrequent or rare (if YouTube translated correctly), and that was my impression from watching his video. Which makes it hard to gauge from watching other, shorter videos. Im not sure about partial refreshing; the refreshes I’ve seen were full screen refreshes as I underlined in the quote above. And in that case, flashing is not acceptable to me. It’s a mind reset, an extra step. I don’t know what your intended use from the phone is, but I have started looking elsewhere than phones for my eink needs. There are some good android ereaders now, with bigger screens and the hardware is not quite so far behind as it was. Last edited by Waiting4somethin; 03-06-2018 at 06:43 PM. Onyx, for example, correctly put a setting for it. I cannot remember it in the user interface, but I have seen it read in the code (e.g. of the Monitor app). |
