Kindle Voyage 2(?)

Please forgive me if this has been covered, (I tried a search but couldn't find anything) but I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new Voyage, but I didn't want to buy then see a new version months later. Is there any word on any update to the Voyage?

It is anybody’s guess if the Voyage will be replaced. With the models at each end having Bluetooth, you would think Amazon would do something to the Paperwhite and Voyage, likely at the beginning of the summer. With the popularity of the Paperwhite, it is likely to get a refresh. Whether the Voyage gets one is unclear. Amazon could replace them both with a model somewhere between the two. Amazon could also do nothing. It is all a guessing game at this point.

I was hoping they would simplify everything, find ways to sell their Kindles even cheaper; with even longer battery life.

I've got some non tax refund money coming up in a month or two, Yippee! It's like finding a $20 bill in an old coat pocket!

I've been contemplating a new ebook reader to replace my PW2. I thought I could give the pw2 to my wife, who I'm starting to wear down about eBooks.

But I don't see the current Voyage and Oasis models as a big enough jump to warrant an upgrade. OK, maybe the Oasis is a big jump, but I choke a little at that price, is it REALLY worth that much money?

I don't know, I might do something foolish with the money, like put it to my retirement funds.

I think it is, given that it's a device I use every day. You may of course feel otherwise. I read PDFs on an iPad, hence the price is relatively modest by comparison.

I too believe the Oasis2 is worth the money I read everyday and the larger screen is what makes it worth it to me. I have not try any audible books,so I don’t know how that is working. But I may one day pair my hearing aids to the oasis and give it a try

The 32GB iPad is only $270 at Best Buy. It is not so much the price, it is about what they offer in terms of a reading device. PDFs (textbooks) and comics favor a larger screen but apart from that smaller is better (for me that includes smartphones). I can do without a $300 Oasis and am not sure I would prefer it to my Voyage, or use it more than I’m using my Voyage.

Here are some features I would be looking for in a new Kindle (replacing Paperwhite or Voyage):
- improve Audible to include immersion reading
- add Plain Old TTS (alongside VoiceView) and ability to download additional voices
- 8GB
- Bluetooth
- new CPU/GPU same as Oasis, hence supporting Invert Black & White

I would like flush screen, light sensor, page buttons too but if they delivered the above for $120 Paperwhite and there seemed no prospect for a new Voyage, I’d probably get one.

I think the Oasis 2 is a fabulous Kindle. I also use it everyday. I upgraded from a Voyage, hubby had that. If money is an issue then the PW2 is good enough but if you want the best ereader then the Oasis 2 isn’t that, IMO.

I have a Voyage and a Paperwhite and I do like the Voyage a bit better when I'm reading with it but then when I'm reading with the Paperwhite I prefer it.

The Voyage is lighter and smaller and easier to hold. I also liked the flush bezel at first but then I began to realize that I was accidentally touching the screen while holding it and turning pages so now I think I prefer bezels.

I'm saving for a new Kindle. My newest one is a couple of years old. It'll take a while to save up for it and when I do it's going to be a tough choice. My guess is I'll get a Paperwhite but I won't decide till I'm close. My guess is I'll get a Voyage. My guess is I'll get a Paperwhite. See the problem!

I don’t like the color of the metal frame, as juxtaposed with the black bezel. Granted I only played with one for 5 minutes, but it didn’t feel comfortable in my hand. And I doubt it would fit in my back jeans pocket which is something do with my Voyage.

But mostly I wish they would add TTS and immersion reading.

I had a PW2 and replaced it with the Voyage a few years ago. I really like the Voyage--the haptic buttons and the auto adjusting light make it that much nicer than my PW2. Don't know if those two differences justify the cost, but if I had to replace my Kindle right now, I'd do it with a new Voyage. The Oasis 2 does look intriguing--but I like the size of my Voyage.
