Is reading better for you than a spa?

There is very little about most Spas that appeals to me. I can't manage steam rooms or saunas, I can't breath in the heat. I don't care for massages, facials, or pedicures.

Being somewhere where everyone has the same goal of quiet reading sounds wonderful. I love to read while I eat, not all the time though. If my husband isn't home for dinner, I will read while eating.

Why would I want to visit a spa when I live in one????? In the summer we experience 115° F and 100% humidity.

Personally, I never go near a spa but I find sending SWMBO off for a spa day gives me a relaxing day to read (a nice present for both of us

I get the impression that what I think is a spa and what others think is a spa... There is a spa here, close by. It consists of various things, ranging from masages to sauna's. But also a warm mineral water pool. So, hop in that pool, get warm inside and out, climb out of that pool and go relax in a chair, while reading...

The one thing that got my attention is the part where Annie says that, if she reads at home, she always thinks she needs to do other things. It's the same with me. I have a hard time reading (or playing games or whatever), because I *know* my e-book library still isn't perfect (need to fix some genre tags in a load of books), I still have some CD's to rip (my Complete Works of Haydn box isn't done yet), there are still inconsistencies in my FLAC music library, there's software to update and/or archive, put into a virtual machine... on top of running a household and working. There's always -something- to do, and then it's hard to just sit down and read.

I think I'd choose both. Not all spa treatments require laying face-down on a masseur's table! One can read while receiving a pedicure or a face treatment, while soaking in a mud bath or a hot spring... Hmm, now I want to book a spa visit and bring some reading material with me!
