The Whiskey Rebels is a non-series titles by David Liss, and, according to SYKM, was a finalist for the Macavity Award for Best Historical Novel. Rebels has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Whiskey-Rebel...dp/B0015DYJVW/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-whiskey-rebels

Spoiler:
Quote:
David Liss’s bestselling historical thrillers, including A Conspiracy of Paper and The Coffee Trader, have been called remarkable and rousing: the perfect combination of scrupulous research and breathless excitement. Now Liss delivers his best novel yet in an entirely new setting–America in the years after the Revolution, an unstable nation where desperate schemers vie for wealth, power, and a chance to shape a country’s destiny.

Ethan Saunders, once among General Washington’s most valued spies, now lives in disgrace, haunting the taverns of Philadelphia. An accusation of treason has long since cost him his reputation and his beloved fiancée, Cynthia Pearson, but at his most desperate moment he is recruited for an unlikely task–finding Cynthia’s missing husband. To help her, Saunders must serve his old enemy, Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, who is engaged in a bitter power struggle with political rival Thomas Jefferson over the fragile young nation’s first real financial institution: the Bank of the United States.

Meanwhile, Joan Maycott is a young woman married to another Revolutionary War veteran. With the new states unable to support their ex-soldiers, the Maycotts make a desperate gamble: trade the chance of future payment for the hope of a better life on the western Pennsylvania frontier. There, amid hardship and deprivation, they find unlikely friendship and a chance for prosperity with a new method of distilling whiskey. But on an isolated frontier, whiskey is more than a drink; it is currency and power, and the Maycotts’ success attracts the brutal attention of men in Hamilton’s orbit, men who threaten to destroy all Joan holds dear.

As their causes intertwine, Joan and Saunders–both patriots in their own way–find themselves on opposing sides of a daring scheme that will forever change their lives and their new country. The Whiskey Rebels is a superb rendering of a perilous age and a nation nearly torn apart–and David Liss’s most powerful novel yet.

A couple of titles in the Dr Dody McCleland series by Felicity Young have dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. The titles in this series used to go on sale pretty often in the past, but I haven't seen them on sale for a quite a while, so I'm posting again...

The Insanity of Murder
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Insanity-Murd...dp/B00RKU7QM8/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-insanity-of-murder
Spoiler:
Quote:
Another engrossing mystery in the acclaimed Dr Dody McCleland series, featuring Britain's first female autopsy surgeon.

To Doctor Dody McCleland, the gruesome job of dealing with the results of an explosion at the Necropolis Railway Station is testing enough. But when her suffragette sister Florence is implicated in the crime, matters worsen and Dody finds her loyalty cruelly divided. Can she choose between love for her sister and her secret love for Chief Inspector Matthew Pike, the investigating officer on the case?

Dody and Pike's investigations lead them to a women's rest home where patients are not encouraged to read or think and where clandestine treatments and operations are conducted in an unethical and inhumane manner. Together, Dody and Pike must uncover such foul play before their secret liaisons become public knowledge - and before Florence becomes the rest home's next victim.

Praise for the Dr Dody McCleland Mysteries:

'An excellent crime series ... careful plotting, unexpected twists. sexual tension and a thrilling ending will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next instalment' Good Reading

'Cannily blending the forensic thriller with historical crime ... [plus an] endearingly eccentric heroine ... More please, Ms Young, and soon' Sunday Age

'A classic, with fluid and atmospheric storytelling ... Young's skilful narration captivates and intrigues' West Australian

'This satisfying blend of history, forensics and crime is the first of a compelling new series' Woman's Day on A Dissection of Murder

A Donation of Murder
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Donation-Murd...dp/B01EUBP8MO/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-donation-of-murder

Spoiler:
Quote:
The fifth in the Dr Dodi McCleland series - Agatha Christie meets Phryne Fisher

Forensic doctor Dody McCleland is horrified when the seemingly dead body of a well-dressed woman she has just sliced with her scalpel bolts upright with a howl. Dody has heard of bodies frozen into a false death before but never come face to face with the phenomenon. She feels a terrible debt - and a strange connection - to this woman, discovered incongruously near the notorious Anchor and Whistle public house. Yet Dody is puzzled: how did a woman of such means and intelligence come to be left for dead in the icy cold of this unsavoury district?

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Pike has a gang of jewel thieves with a trail of murder behind them bailed up in a burning building. When one of the gang escapes, and the remainder are found assassinated at close range, it is clear the modus operandi of the chief suspect has brutally shifted. Then Pike discovers both that the king has an interest in the gang's stolen jewels and that his superior is suspected of corruption. Threats to his career and his relationship with Dody further intensify an already delicate situation.
Join Dody and Pike as they work to find out who is behind the carnage, discover who Dody's new friend really is, and if there's any hope of them ever sharing a future together.

Hallowed Bones is the 5th in the Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines. Although it has a bit of paranormal in it (the ghost of SBD's great-great-grandmother’s nanny) this is much more a cozy series than a paranormal series. Bones has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Hallowed-Bone...dp/B000FC1AF2/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/hallowed-bones

Spoiler:
Quote:
The southern Delta has never been more exhilarating, evocative, and wickedly funny than in the mysteries of Carolyn Haines. Now she takes readers on another rollicking ride across the Mississippi cotton fields and into the glamour of New Orleans…as P.I. Sarah Booth Delaney follows a winding trail of murder and deception into a world where ghosts make fashion statements—and where one person’s miracle is another person’s mayhem.

The leaves of the calendar may be shedding faster than the sycamores on her family’s decaying Mississippi plantation, but thirty-something southern belle Sarah Booth Delaney isn’t ready to sing the blues. Not when she’s got a thriving detective agency and the outspoken, outrageously attired ghost of her great-great-grandmother’s nanny to keep her on her toes. But the matchmaking phantom may have the last word on motherhood when Sarah Booth takes on the controversial case of an accused baby killer.

Although Doreen Mallory’s been arrested for feeding sleeping pills to her ten-week-old daughter, no one could accuse her of lacking faith. A healer who, tragically, couldn’t save her own baby girl, born with multiple birth defects, Doreen has her own crosses to bear. While the local law seems convinced of Doreen’s guilt, Sarah Booth isn’t so sure. But why is Doreen reluctant to talk about the men in her life? Like the televangelist who stands to lose a lot more than his flock. Or the married politician with family ties to the Mob. Either of them could be little Rebekah’s father; either of them could also be her killer.

With Halloween approaching and her own personal life up for grabs, Sarah Booth could use a little faith healing herself. Torn between a married sheriff and an old flame who’s literally sweeping her off her feet, she’d better be prepared for the fallout of her most unpopular case yet. Justice may not stand a ghost of a chance as a decades-old secret explodes, unleashing a storm of fury on Sarah Booth and all those she loves.

Witty, suspenseful, and featuring a cast of memorable characters, Hallowed Bones is a riveting tale of faith, murder, and maternal love. It is Carolyn Haines’s most accomplished novel yet.

Princess Elizabeth's Spy is the second in the much nominated/awarded Maggie Hope series by Susan Elia Macneal. It has dropped to $2.99 as part of the US Kindle Daily Deal; also priced $2.99 at Kobo US.

As @Apache mentioned somewhere upthread, the titles in this series may be going on sale due to a new title scheduled for August...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Princess-Eliz...dp/B007WKE4VW/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/pri...lizabeth-s-spy

Spoiler:
Quote:
Susan Elia MacNeal introduced the remarkable Maggie Hope in her acclaimed debut, Mr. Churchill’s Secretary. Now Maggie returns to protect Britain’s beloved royals against an international plot—one that could change the course of history.

As World War II sweeps the continent and England steels itself against German attack, Maggie Hope, former secretary to Prime Minister Winston Churchill, completes her training to become a spy for MI-5. Spirited, strong-willed, and possessing one of the sharpest minds in government for mathematics and code-breaking, she fully expects to be sent abroad to gather intelligence for the British front. Instead, to her great disappointment, she is dispatched to go undercover at Windsor Castle, where she will tutor the young Princess Elizabeth in math. Yet castle life quickly proves more dangerous—and deadly—than Maggie ever expected. The upstairs-downstairs world at Windsor is thrown into disarray by a shocking murder, which draws Maggie into a vast conspiracy that places the entire royal family in peril. And as she races to save England from a most disturbing fate, Maggie realizes that a quick wit is her best defense, and that the smallest clues can unravel the biggest secrets, even within her own family.

C.O.P. Out is the sixth in the Elena Jarvis series by Nancy (Fairbanks) Herndon. I remember reading this series, set in a thinly disguised El Paso, IMS, back in DTB days, and enjoying most of them. Out has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (coupon/VIPable).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/C-P-Out-Nancy...dp/B00J90C63G/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/c-o-p-out-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
Elena Jarvis, a police officer from Los Santos, Texas, has succeeded against all odds. Now she confronts possibly the biggest, most politically charged mystery ever. When a volunteer with the Citizens on Patrol (C.O.P.) program, last seen patrolling with a rookie officer, is found murdered, Elena must work fast to find the true murderer or take the heat with the rest of her department. Elena is not comforted by the fact that the victim was the wife of one of the mayoral candidates—who is of course using his wife’s death to turn the polls around. Only the sharp‑witted Elena Jarvis can succeed at such a complex case—and if she does not, she is the next suspect.

Ouch! I only have three or four authors whose books I will buy at full price when first released - one pays so dearly for the privilege of reading early...

Good luck !

She would never ask me to buy it for her. She would wait until it dropped in price. I buy it right away because I want her to have it as soon as it is available. Love makes you do funny things sometimes.

Thank you.
I am a readaholic and spend a lot of money on books. My wife never complains about my habit. The only thing she ever said was "at least it isn't alcohol, drugs or cigarettes." So, to me, she is a keeper. I know how lucky we are to have found each other. We are opposites in many ways, but everything seems to mesh together seamlessly.
