They may be offering them over the next few months because the eighth book, The Prisoner in the Castle, is due to be published in August.

The Game is the seventh in the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I really like this series, and also, in this title, the references and ties to the "Great Game" period of history...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Game-suspense...dp/B000FC1AG6/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-game-35

Spoiler:
Quote:
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Laurie R. King's Garment of Shadows.

It’s only the second day of 1924, but Mary Russell and her husband, Sherlock Holmes, find themselves embroiled in intrigue. It starts with a New Year’s visit from Holmes’s brother Mycroft, who comes bearing a strange package containing the papers of an English spy named Kimball O’Hara—the same Kimball known to the world through Kipling’s famed Kim. Inexplicably, O’Hara withdrew from the “Great Game” of espionage and now he has just as inexplicably disappeared.

When Russell discovers Holmes’s own secret friendship with the spy, she knows the die is cast: she will accompany her husband to India to search for the missing operative. But Russell soon learns that in this faraway and exotic land, it’s often impossible to tell friend from foe—and that some games aren’t played for fun but for the highest stakes of all…life and death.

A whole bunch (maybe 25 or so) of titles in the Sister Fidelma series by Peter Tremayne have dropped to between £0.99 and £2.99 at Kindle and Kobo UK. I'm really slammed right now and don't have time to list titles individually, but here are links for both. This is one of my favorite series - I am hoping the sale lasts long enough for me to get home tonight and check for the ones I need. There are a few strays in there that I don't have time to sort out - a few PD titles, at least one stray novella, some non-Fidelma titles and a French language sample, maybe others, so check carefully before you buy.

James Ellroy's Blood on the Moon is on sale for $2.99 at Amazon. It's the first book in a trilogy he wrote about detective Lloyd Hopkins. All three books in the trilogy have been on sale recently, but never at the same time

Lloyd Hopkins was not yet a cop when the Watts riots ripped Los Angeles apart. A member of the California National Guard, he had dreams of trading in his khaki uniform for blue -- of serving and protecting instead of learning to kill. Called in to patrol the streets of South Central Los Angeles during the riots, he discovered that safeguarding his city often meant shedding blood.

Seventeen years later, Hopkins wears plainclothes. He has everything he had dreamed of as a young soldier: a wife, a family, and a detective's commission. But the city's finest homicide detective is about to be tested. Twenty women are dead, and to find their killer, this good cop must learn to think like a madman.

A Dangerous Place is the 11th in the much nominated/awarded Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Dangerous-Pla...dp/B00LSRBY9A/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-dangerous-place-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
Four years after she set sail from England, leaving everything she most loved behind, Maisie Dobbs at last returns, only to find herself in a dangerous place . . .

In Jacqueline Winspear‘s powerful story of political intrigue and personal tragedy, a brutal murder in the British garrison town of Gibraltar leads Maisie into a web of lies, deceit, and peril.

Spring 1937. In the four years since she left England, Maisie Dobbs has experienced love, contentment, stability—and the deepest tragedy a woman can endure. Now, all she wants is the peace she believes she might find by returning to India. But her sojourn in the hills of Darjeeling is cut short when her stepmother summons her home to England; her aging father Frankie Dobbs is not getting any younger.

But on a ship bound for England, Maisie realizes she isn’t ready to return. Against the wishes of the captain who warns her, “You will be alone in a most dangerous place,” she disembarks in Gibraltar. Though she is on her own, Maisie is far from alone: the British garrison town is teeming with refugees fleeing a brutal civil war across the border in Spain.

Yet the danger is very real. Days after Maisie’s arrival, a photographer and member of Gibraltar’s Sephardic Jewish community, Sebastian Babayoff, is murdered, and Maisie becomes entangled in the case, drawing the attention of the British Secret Service. Under the suspicious eye of a British agent, Maisie is pulled deeper into political intrigue on “the Rock”—arguably Britain’s most important strategic territory—and renews an uneasy acquaintance in the process. At a crossroads between her past and her future, Maisie must choose a direction, knowing that England is, for her, an equally dangerous place, but in quite a different way.

Game Over from the Bill Slider series (by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles) is 0.99 today at US Amazon.

Game Over - Cynthia Harrod-Eagles

It's hard to get all the ebooks at the moment as they keep getting randomly removed from sale at both Amazon and Kobo.

A gentle reminder that self-published books can only be listed if the member has read it and recommends it.

Since Catlady's link is to the Audible version, mostly likely Blackstone Audio didn't get the rights to any cover artwork. Doesn't mean there's anything dubious about the book; both Babson (author) and Crossley (narrator) are well-established professionals.

Yes, it's just one of those embarrassing mix-ups that sometimes happen when proper records aren't kept.

One of the anthologies connected with The Outer Limits television series in the 1990s used an image of a house that subsequently ended up as the cover for a hardback re-release of Stephen King's Salem's Lot a decade later.

The much awarded Conspiracy of Paper by David Liss is the first in the Benjamin Weaver series. It has dropped to $3.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. I read this back in DTB days and really enjoyed it so I'm happy to see the price drop.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Conspiracy-Pa...dp/B000QCS93W/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-conspiracy-of-paper

Spoiler:
Quote:
THE HISTORICAL THRILLER OF THE YEAR

Benjamin Weaver is an outsider in eighteenth-century London: a Jew among Christians; a ruffian among aristocrats; a retired pugilist who, hired by London's gentry, travels through the criminal underworld in pursuit of debtors and thieves.

In A Conspiracy of Paper, Weaver investigates a crime of the most personal sort: the mysterious death of his estranged father, a notorious stockjobber. To find the answers, Weaver must contend with a desperate prostitute who knows too much about his past, relatives who remind him of his alienation from the Jewish faith, and a cabal of powerful men in the world of British finance who have hidden their business dealings behind an intricate web of deception and violence. Relying on brains and brawn, Weaver uncovers the beginnings of a strange new economic order based on stock speculation--a way of life that poses great risk for investors but real danger for Weaver and his family.

In the tradition of The Alienist and written with scholarly attention to period detail, A Conspiracy of Paper is one of the wittiest and most suspenseful historical novels in recent memory, as well as a perceptive and beguiling depiction of the origin of today's financial markets. In Benjamin Weaver, author David Liss has created an irresistibly appealing protagonist, one who parlays his knowledge of the emerging stock market into a new kind of detective work.

A huge batch of Patricia Wentworth titles, mostly Miss Silver, have dropped to $2.99 and $3.99 at Kindle US. Way too many for me to list individually, and these are not the "Golden Age" mysteries that have been going free/cheap in the UK. If you like Miss Silver and need to fill in some titles, take a look...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?se...price-asc-rank

A few titles are in this price range at Kobo, but clearly not the same sale. Still, here's a link for price check purposes if you wish.

Frederick Forsyth's The Deceiver is currently 99p in the UK.

Amazon UK | Kobo

Quote:
Sam McCready is The Deceiver, one of the Secret Intelligence Service's most unorthodox and most valued operatives, a legend in his own time. The end of the cold war has, however, strengthened the hand of the Whitehall mandarins, to whom he seems about as controllable as Genhis Khan, so Sam is to have his fate decided at a special hearing.

As part of the proceedings, four of Sam's key operations are reviewed: a clandestine mission into East Germany in 1985 to contact the top Russian spy General Pankratin; the second involving a KGB colonel who wants to defect - but is he genuine? An audacious Qaddafi-inspired plot to ship arms to the IRA; and the fourth when McCready presided over the aftermath of political murder and mayhem in the Caribbean.
