Actually, you can change the icon so that it doesn't show the percent by going into settings-->accessibility-->display size and changing it back to Standard. You'll still be able to see the battery icon, but some people report that it helps not to see the percentage.

Last i read Amazon's battery life claims are based on 1/2 hour per day at a lighting level of 10. Based on that some that are posted are getting weeks. I read with a much brighter light and read much more than 1/2 hour a day. Sometimes I am charging daily because as I set the book down I notice it is less than 30%. Since I am taking a brake I simply plug it in. If I know i am going to be out of the house I make sure it is charged up before I leave. Would I like to read like I do and charge it monthly. Sure. But as is I am not unduly inconvenienced by the battery life.

I too get reasonable battery when reading straight for long periods.
Every Kindle I've ever owned (6 with the O2) needed charging if it sat unused for more than a month. For that matter, every laptop I've ever owned was the same. Checking my O2, it lost 1% sitting closed for 12 hours. That's with wifi on, and I'm not going to check with it off. Can't say I think that's a big negative or even matters to me at all. My curiosity about my O2's battery is officially satisfied now.

Good point and interesting observation on your battery drain. Something I should try sometime. My gut says I would lose 1% in less than 12 hours but I could be wrong

Lol,
30% of battery depletion per day is acceptable to you?
I turn wifi off, and use no more than 4 in light (preferably 0), and that helps me in using about 10% per day, just for read time, not including depletion overnight.
If I don't, I get sometimes 10% of depletion per hour!
I've even been contemplating on disabling the touch screen.

I read every day at least 30 minutes a day and my battery after 2 weeks of use still showing 70% of battery life left. I am not seeing an issue with my Oasis’s battery.
I have my lighting at 9 and I only use WIFI about once a week and then only for about 5 minutes at a time.

It cracks me up on how we have 17 pages of complaining about Oasis battery life

I have a three year old kindle fire that drains 10 percent watching g 45 minutes on hull. I have resigned myself to an external battery

I've switched to the battery icon too. It does help not seeing the percentage drop.

I do monitor the percent left, as a tech person it is just what I do. I also do not see a problem with the Oasis's battery. I am getting about the same battery life on my Oasis 2 as I got with my Voyage and PW2. I read for almost 5 hours yesterday and my Oasis2 only dropped 20 percent in battery life. So at least my Oasis has no battery issues.

How long have you had your Voyage and PW2 ? My old PW1 only needs to be charged about once a month. The battery would be old now. I don't have it any more but a family member has it, I asked how often it needs to be charged he reads about an average of 1\2 hr. a day, every few days, but not everyday. Light set at about 10. That would be about the same for my husbands newer PW3. He also leaves wifi on. Both PW's old and new do much better than my new Oasis. They Voyage a little less but still better. Although The PW's and Voyage are smaller screens.

That sounds like mine too. I don't read for hrs. straight, I don't have time. I'll read an average of an hr. per evening. I think the Oasis 2 will do better reading long periods at a time, with lower light settings and of course wifi off. I don't read like that, so the results are going to be different than others. Your results seem to match mine.

I plan on trading my Oasis 2 in , in 2 years. This will be the first Kindle I have not passed down to a family member. I don't know what Amazon will have next if they plan on keeping the Oasis line or something new. For user's like me anyway I'll need to see a battery improvement. I do like the larger screen but could also live without it. I still have my voyage and like it a lot. Maybe they will make a bigger Voyage like device next time to place a bigger battery. Or they will keep the Oasis shape and have better batteries by then. They will need to do something for those who want to use the audio on the oasis 2. If not for just reading on the screen. I do think Amazon is aware of the battery limitations. I guess we'll see what they have next in 2 years.

It all depends on how you use your reader. When I read I read a lot normally. I do not use the wifi much at all, and I do not use the bluetooth at all. I also do not add books very often. When I got the Oasis I loaded the books I would be reading on for maybe then next year or more. I remove the book as I finish reading it. And Like I said there are times I only read about 30 minutes at a time. And there are days that I will read as many as 8 hours at a time. If I really sat down and figured it out I get about 30 hours of reading time per charge. That was what I got with the voyage and the pw also. Also I never allow my battery to go below 25% and normally I recharge at about 40%. I am also someone that before retiring was a electronics Tech and also a software engineer. I understand battery tech and also how to keep batteries from getting over taxed.
