I, and many others, at first assumed there was something wrong, it was so opposite to expectations. So obviously they certainly didn't try to disabuse anyone of their expectations, by being more forthright, and that's the main issue I think. Now judging this in isolation to any other device, and no expectations, sure, it's okay. |

Not talking about using the device while charging. Charging the device, while not have been using it for a week or so. Last time my battery life was a little better. I had used up about 10% in a week's time of never using it. I guess it's because now I have a sleeve. But without the sleeve, it had nearly 50% of battery used from a full battery, when just leaving it alone for a week. |

Why are you sitting staring at the home page of your Kindle? That's the only place that the battery meter is visible. Read a book, and you don't see it.

Would I have bought it ? Not the 32g, just the basic 8g. model. Not because of the cost but because of the battery life. These are brand new batteries, they will go down hill from here. I guess in 2 years, I'll know if it was worth it or not, even if I didn't buy it myself. |

I must be very lucky, I am getting about 20 hours of reading time from my battery. I don’t use WiFi very much and I don’t have very many books or magazines on my OAsis. And I keep my lighting down to 8 or less.

I've never timed battery drain on any of my Kindles. I'm retired and read a lot, so I've had to charge every one (K1, KK, PW1, Voyage, Oasis 1, and Oasis 2) often. Relative to my use, Amazon's estimates always were and are a joke.

However, yesterday I sat down with my O2 and knew I'd be sitting reading for hours straight, and it was freshly charged to 100% and it occurred to me to write down my starting time. The first time I took a break, I also wrote down the time. In 2 hours and 10 minutes, it lost 8%. That's with the screen at 16, font size 6, bold 1, and wifi on (I'm too lazy to keep turning it on and off and just leave it on). Multiplying that out, it seems to me that's relatively good, and I suspect better than my O1, which has always annoyed me with the cover draining first, the naked device having very little battery time, and being unable to recharge the cover while reading on the device alone. I've never timed the O1 drain, though, just felt cranky about it. None of it matters to me in a big way because I keep a charging cord plugged in next to the chair I read in and just plug the thing in when it gets low. One plus to the O2 is how fast it charges. I don't often take any of my Kindles out and about, and when I do, it's the O1 because I worry about losing a Kindle when out and never want it to be my current favorite. None of them ever ran out of battery when I was waiting for a car repair, etc. |

I think the big difference here is how much it drains when not in use. My Paperwhite can go for months unused and still be ready to use, the Oasis 2 seems to rapidly lose its charge even after a week of mild use (I still read lots of physical books!). I too get reasonable battery when reading straight for long periods.

Any sleeve that uses a magnetic lock to put the reader into sleep mode, extends passive battery life. |

I have a Aztek EzReader Pro, of maybe 5 or 6 years old. It has a 1000mAh battery in there. Currently it has less than 25% of charge. The battery hasn't blown up, but it just has seen enough charges and depletion time, for it to now have the same battery life as my Oasis. On the other hand, it doesn't have a screen light, neither touch screen active. I think I'd prefer ebook readers that have no touch screen, and use 4 way directional keys, to mark a text in a book. I hardly ever add notes to my books anyway. |
