Ah, I think I understand what you mean now. Yep, looks like Stanza was never updated to 64bit so it is no longer available on the App Store. I would have liked to see what that "None" setting did.

Stanza has been pulled out of the App Store (by Amazon) long before iOS 11. I think iOS 5 was the last version that worked with Stanza without too many glitches. On iOS 6, I believe it crashed when you went to some of the settings menu.
If you want to see what I'm referring to, Marvin 3 (free download) with Page turn style set to Instant (under EPUB book settings) works much the same. P.S. It may not be quite so instantaneous on iPads with A7 or older but on devices with more powerful chipsets, page turns pretty much happen in the blink of an eye. I'll have to check it out. When I was bailing on iBooks, Marvin was a finalist before I went with MapleRead SE.

I went straight from Stanza to Marvin 2 and eventually Marvin 3. Organization-wise, the little I’ve seen of MapleRead seems to be better than Marvin. Marvin also lacks automatic annotations syncing albeit it does provide versatile export options.
MapleRead and Hyphen are both under consideration but Hyphen seems too basic. While it does sync books via iCloud, I can’t find an option to batch download all synced books (either manual or automatically). The page turn animations are a deal breaker for me, though. That’s the primary reason I wouldn’t switch to iBooks. Even Kindle, I’d convert to epub and read on Marvin. |

I left iBooks when an iOS 9 update destroyed my careful manually sorted by author and series library. Since iBooks only has a couple of auto sort options, I went looking elsewhere. It was MapleRead's sorting options that clinched the deal for me.
Yep, I do the same with Kindle books - convert to ePub in Calibre and read in MR. |

I'm looking for a new epub reader for ios devices. I had Marvin, but am pretty fed up with it. Seems every time I get a new IOS device, there is a different version, and I'm required to pay for it again as opposed to being able to download it again from my purchased apps in the app store. It seems updates should just be made available to the app without having to repurchase. So bye-bye Marvin, good riddance.
I downloaded Bluefire, which seems to be a decent app, but I'm a bit taken aback at how long it takes to search, if I want to look up a character from earlier in the book. Plus search isn't enabled when you highlight a name, you have to type it into the search function or copy and paste. Other than that, it hits all the right buttons. I haven't tried Mapleread yet, but just downloaded to my 7S plus. Has anyone done a compare between Mapleread and Bluefire? Mostly reading is on my phone, but want a good app for a ipad mini first generation. Any impressions would be appreciated. Last edited by drofgnal; 01-29-2018 at 12:32 PM. |

Since the last update (1.7.2) I now have a gap at the right hand end of the search bar (a white patch about an inch wide over the top of where the arrow should be) under tags and edit and the book shelves stop short instead of going all the way to the far right. I am using Mapleread SE on an iPad 10.5. It does not affect my iPad 9.7. Thanks for any help.

Stanza began working again (for those interested) in iOS8 and early 9. I think it was at 9.3.5 that it failed again. However, given that we can't downgrade anymore (even on older devices), the point has become moot. I've kept my Stanza .ipas but cant use them anymore. And nobody has yet created a book management method like that of Stanza/Lexcycle.

For the most part, Marvin + Dropbox has been working for me (albeit not ideally). Marvin really doesn't work all that well with Calibre/OPDS for books that get updated frequently. When downloading from OPDS or HTTP, it doesn't ask if you want to overwrite when there's a filename collision. It does ask if downloading from Dropbox. I still miss how well Stanza handled/integrated with OPDS feeds. |

With Stanza being dead, I wonder if MaplePop could adapt some of its features or at least something similar? I only used Stanza on my iMac a couple of times to clean up some ePubs so I never got into using it on my iPad 1 (I just stayed with iBooks until iOS 9.x screwed me over).
Out of curiosity, how did Stanza's book management compare to MapleRead? |

You can download and read books directly from the OPDS feed so organization and search function is effectively as good as what Calibre's Content Server can provide. I've yet to find an alternate reader on iOS that integrates as nicely as Stanza with Calibre. |

I'm a new user, been using Marvin for about a year, but was looking at other ios apps. I looked at all the customization options, and I was wondering if there were any other options for page turn animations, other than the curl and the slide? I much prefer the more instant "flash" turn, the slide and curl are distracting somehow.
