Both Sony's Digital Papers are based on Android. Unfortunately locked versions.

I am hoping that Boox will add a front-light (especially with the blue filter night-time option) to one or all of these devices. I think the Boox Note would be pretty much ideal for me if it had a front-light (including amber night option.) Booxtor, do you have any idea whether there are any plans to add lighting/night lighting eventually? Other than that, the Max2 and Boox Note look very impressive. I had been hoping to buy a reMarkable, but would prefer Android and these Boox specs. I also really like that the Note has a microphone and dual speakers. I think it would also be an ideal size for me, although the Max2 used as a monitor is also tempting. I do have a few questions though, if anyone can answer these: 1. Can you underline and take notes on ePubs, or is that only for PDFs? (I'm most interested in the answer to this question... and I'm guessing the answer is no, only PDFs.) 2. Can you increase the text size of: - the dictionary definitions shown? - the titles of the books and other OS text? 3. Can you read both PDFs and web pages in landscape mode - turning it either direction - making the text larger and more easily readable? (For example, in the video Booxtor pulled up this forum, but it looked waaay too tiny for me to read. It seemed like it would be much more readable in landscape with large text. Is it easy to make that adjustment on this device?) 4. Are these screens supposed to be virtually unbreakable like the reMarkable screen? Does Flexible Carta screen mean that it's plastic rather than glass? Is screen breakage less likely? Less likely to scratch? 5. Is the cover included, and what is it like? Does it hold the tablet securely? Is there a place to securely store the stylus? Does it seem like it might offer any significant drop protection? |

It would be better if they used infrared touch instead of capacitive, as is in Sony DPT-S1 for example. And it's good that the screen size does not allow to use the backlight.

I doubt Boox is capable of working with stuff like that. M90 had an infrared button for page turns and capacitive buttons for home and return. They were unable to make any of it work right. Device suffered from terrible battery drain and random page turns. In the end, they released new hardware with bug fixes and requested features, minus the infrared and capacitive buttons ofcourse

I really don't have anything important to say, but I feel the need to leave here the dissapointing sensations I had when I read about the non-HDMI-implementation on the Onyx Note. I can accept thhe decision of removing the MicroSD, even when I find it usefull, but the absence of HDMI is a big f**king shit.
I am an old user of eReaders and I had been waiting for all this years for a device that had everything that's necessary for my idea of a ideal device, and it was the Note when they said it would have HDMI, MicroSD slot and 2GB of ram. Again I have to buy a device which is incomplete, and without a good reason, because I am not going to spend 750-780€ in a 13" device. Also I am pretty sure I am not the only one who doesn't gonna spend all this money just for an HDMI port. (Sorry guys but it was that or go to kill someone in China...) |

The current implementation of the HDMI is incomplete - again it is sad to see lack of assessment in the change log of the firmware which is about to be released -, and you have alternatives with desktop remote on all devices. |

Hi Booxter, I have emailed you at ereader.store about my missing shipment. I have also sent you a message on here and used the contact form on the website twice. My new Max2Pro was shipped on the 19th January, I have not received it and the UPS tracking has never updated. Very worried as it was a lot of money. Thank you

It looks like there's a "Note S" that's 9.7" on that page as well.

Color
![]() And I suppose that the SD-Card port could be definitively forgotten. With GoogleTranslate, I have the following sentence 'digital education cloud platform'. The subject of this article is about the education, the school. In school, if you want control the readings of the students or the contents of the device, why to take the risk to let the students use a SD-Card ? Whith the cloud and the Wifi connexion only, the control and the surveillance is easiest. |

I believe the technology for Color is almost here. The wiki shows the current stuff in E Ink Triton. Current state of the art for a color screen is 250 dpi which translates to 125 ppi for color images. I think this is still a little low but close. I think when 300 dpi can be realized in production that 150 ppi can be shipped and will finally be high enough for many users. The controller would be able to provide text only areas at higher resolution and images with good color. I suspect this is less than a year away. The carta technology merged with Triton will make it the screen of the future.

I am convinced that next is colour, but I bet on the ACEP, the "Advanced Color ePaper" - having in a single dot (cell, pixel) the pigments (like Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK) required for subtractive colour synthesis. Of course, we have to wait for it to became a viable mass production possibility. Quote:
You need, as you have now, elements that go White-to-Cyan, White-to-Magenta, White-to-Yellow, White-to-Black, and possibly in the same cell. This simulates print. Advanced Color ePaper is implemented around this. Last edited by mdp; 02-02-2018 at 06:16 AM. |
