Yes, that's what I meant. While mine is definitely not as good as my Voyage, I get about two weeks battery life from it. I read 1-2 hours every day, frontlight on level 9, wifi off. In sleep mode the battery drains about 8-10% in 24 hours.

Connect it to a wall charger. Restart it. Occasionally wake it up (it indexes faster when not sleeping). Leave it connected until the indexing is finished.

Wow, that's a lot of books to index. At least you have found a reason for your poor battery life, though!

To validate that it's not just my reading activity, I charged the Oasis from 10% to 100% this morning. It reached 100% at 11:28am, and I left it closed, in standby mode, while I went to lunch.

This is not normal, even considering that the O2 doesn't last as long as my O1 or Voyage. I also have the basic with buttons and it is a very nice device still. I have had all but the K2 and that basic has the best contrast of any kindle overall.

But back to the O2 battery. I can get about 2 days out of mine, but I read a lot so that is not a concern as much. But even with that, when i am not using it, it goes down maybe 2 percent at most overnight. I'd have to check tonight, I know its not much. So 23% in 2 hours of not using it is not normal behavior. I assume you know nothing is stuck indexing as you have had kindles before so again I assume you know how to check for that stuff.

So your Oasis is either defect or something else is stuck. I know that when I first got mine, it was horrid to and it went down even if I didn't use it. I did something someone here suggested. Restarting it and then plugging it in a full overnight. I think that was the order. After that, I only lost couple percentages overnight when not using.

But yeah, something is not right if it goes down while not being used. Its not using light, no page changing, none of that.

eta: I type too slow. i see you found a bunch of non indexed books. Could it be that one is stuck? If the number stays the same that you know and you'll have to take them all of and start fresh. I don't think there is a way to find out which of the books is stuck, is there?
But at least that is an easy fix. You'll get much more normal usage battery once you get that worked out.

37% battery usage in 4 days is a total life of more than 10 days on a charge, which seems entirely reasonable to me. As Sirtel asks, how many hours reading have you done since you charged it?

You guys need to stop thinking in days or weeks. It means nothing if you don't also look at the time the device is actually used for reading. And then there are other variables while doing the reading.

Gimme 10 days of battery any day. None of my kindles have ever been able to go 10 days.

At this point I'd just rather be reading books than obsessing over my battery life. I turned off the accessibility setting that gave me percentage. I am not looking at it anymore. I know I have to charge every 2 days. Or after I read 2 books. Long ones that is.

. I like to charge before I get to 33% down.

I've read a reasonable sized novel today after recharging, and my battery charge has fallen to 88%. I reckon that being able to read an entire book for 12% battery usage isn't at all bad. Aeroplane mode and light on level 8.

I've been able to get zero (!!) battery drain overnight by switching the light off. I've now put my bold levels up to four, and that way I can read the screen easily, even in dim light. I find if I have the light on at all, even at low levels, the device drains (even though the light is supposedly off, with the cover closed).

Well, good for you. I don't want to read with the light completely off, no matter how long the battery would last. The screen looks just ugly. It's no bother for me to charge every 10 days or so. Even once a week would be no problem. I charge my phone every 2 days, my tablet every day.

Despite my posts here, I do still really like my KAO2. I'm pretty much ok with the battery the way I have it set up.

Does anyone know if the wifi+3G model is prone to faster battery drain, even with the radios off? I know that logically, it shouldn't make any difference, but I was thinking of returning my top model and getting the bog standard model instead...

Mine still only lasts a maximum of five days with the light totally off. As this is versus one - two days with light at ten, it's a good work around for me. And the screen actually looks very nice to me.

To each his own. May I ask, do you read several hours every day? That would explain the fast battery drain. I read usually only an hour, sometimes two.

It depends, sometimes I'll read four hours or more a day, sometimes an hour or less.
