Actually, agency priced books DO go on sale - when the publisher decides to put them on sale. Make a (free!) account at ereaderiq.com and (a) you can be notified if the price of that book at Amazon drops and (b) you'll be able to see the price history for that book.

Oh, I know they do; these just strike me as unlikely to go on sale as they're cultish books, not high-profile and recent releases. However, you make a good point; there's no reason not to list them at ereaderiq; lightning may strike! Thanks, Paul.

I came back to the thread to thank you for the ereaderiq mention; it's been a long time since I listed anything there and I should. You never know. (Although maybe I shouldn't; I could well be better off not finding about price drops! )

I'm not going to hit 227 any time soon, though. In fact, I keep my Amazon wishlist at or below 50, just so it's manageable and reflects current reality. After a (long) while if a book just languishes, I have to have a good reason to keep it wishlist or I purge it.

It was hard for me to accept, but I never will be able to read everything I'd like to read!

Well, some of the books I have listed are books I have read, but don't have as an ebook...

The upside to that, such as it is, is that there would be no point in buying until I was on the verge of reading it, so no net addition to the TBR. However, they would up my average price spent per book substantially and it's not as if I don't have other things to read.... But I think when the urge hits, I'll go ahead.
Unusual that Google and Kobo don't have the title in question especially when it's an agency priced book.

I must be much better this year. I think my TBR is now visible from another galaxy.

I have got to stop reading the Freebies and discounted threads and being unable to pass up a bargain. That goes for reading recs as well.

One of my worst habits is buying up series (not just any old thing, but ones I know I would read). I should just buy the first one and read that, and then go from there. Too OCD. I buy them on sale, which is the only saving grace.

I also need to make time to update Calibre with my read/unread column as this would make the unread look less bad. I did replace an avalanche of paper books with ebooks during the halcyon Kobo discount days, but I need to mark a lot of them as read.

Sticking to a book budget failed the last couple of years so I need something else I can stick to.

Maybe it's time to get serious about avoiding bargains, when the price creates the want? Unsubscribe from the bargain threads here, collapse the Deals forum in the index, and unsubscribe from any newsletters or alerts you may have signed up for. "What the eye doesn't see, the addict won't buy," to adapt a bromide.

And, seriously, when the sale price creates the want, you really can do without it.

So far this month, I've bought 2 books - preorders from last November. Otherwise, I have 2 credits purchased from Audible (also last year) to try to use up in 2 days so I can cancel my account until November. Going to be tough! But I did knock off one TBR from 2011.

Tarana, have you suspended your account within the past year?

No, in fact, I didn't get a chance to cancel the account and another little credit showed up in my email this morning. . Since I have 3 credits, I think I will just pay the $10 and have the account held. I don't know exactly what to spend the credits on and hate to waste them on something I'm not excited about.

I've decided that I must read all books I've bought (and buy) this year before I read anything else. Unless it's a series where I have yet to read the earlier books.

Perhaps the prospect of having to read the book urgently will help to restrain me. I've not got off to a good start in 2018.

One of my goals is only to buy books that I think I have a good chance of reading this year. I adopted it midway through last year and didn't do that well with it, although I did make some inroads into both my 2016 and 2017 purchases.

So far this year I've only bought the one book which looks as if it'll be the New Leaf Book Club selection so that's accounted for; however, I know I'll be using up some about-to-expire Google Play credit in the next week or so, but I'll try to be strategic about it.

I rarely read books immediately after I purchase them. It's normal for me to comb through my library looking for something that sounds good at that moment. My last book and my current one are both books I picked up years ago (separate from each other) that happened to sound good now.

I don't see the problem myself. If you aren't going without so you can buy new books, what's the issue?
