I think that I read somewhere that Max2 has mono speaker, Note has dual... Speaker is irrelevant for me (imho if you have bluetooth, it is much better to connect own spakers anyway) however it is interesting to see that Note has something better than Max2

No HDMI in this version. There are some considerations to offer another (additional) Note version with HDMI, flat panel and 64GB later. However it will be obviously more expensive and not sure about appearance date yet (probably in spring).

Unless things have changed, the Note will have 2GB of RAM. At least, that's what it said on the spec sheet Booxtor provided in his earlier post.

More than an HDMI port, I would like to see a micro SD card slot... May have to wait and see what else comes up.

The photo is pretty terrible because my highest-end-phone with-extra-bells-and-whistle with-pedigree-and-cv noted-on-linkedin, does not have focus in the camera.

But the picture, although blurry, may give an idea anyway.

Now, perceptually (as a provisional comment, because I am in a brief phase of bad sight):
EDIT: the screen of the Max2 looks better than the MaxCarta, because it is slightly darker, slightly more saturated, a bit less contrasted, but dots on it do not appear as blocky as Minecraft.
But a better comparison would require checking two identical sources, not done yet.

May you explain how you got adb working, I tried without success, the max2 recognizes the usb link and asks which protocol to use (mtp,photo), on my PC the max2 is recognized but the abd tool does not detect it.

Also, you mention you rooted the max carta, do you think it is possible to root the max2 ?

By the way, how can you activate the recovery and download modes on the max2 ? all the key combinations I used to know did not work.

Thanks for this. In terms of resolution, how would you compare the Max 2 screen at normal reading distance from the eyes with an Apple 'Retina' level display (iPhone, iPad or Macbook), if you happen to have one? Is the 207 PPI sharp enough to class it at retina level, once text/images are zoomed to crop width, or not?

Please re-express your question in non Apple terms - so that some of us those outside that zone can answer that.
I do not believe that "Retina" has ever been other than a marketing term.

When density grows, you do not achieve "sharp". You achieve what, for example, was called "photographic quality" (versus "digital quality") in printing. You reduce defect between the idea of a curve and its physical rendering.
Sharp, the MaxCarta is sharper - and uglier.

I can still see some jaggedness in the Max, but it seems reduced. I would need some sun though.

This is the best I could get - unfortunately the camera is not good enough so I could not get adequate sharpness for the Max2. But it does suggest the blocky inferno of the untreated MaxCarta (which is in fact more - if you have good eyes). And, although not having achieved the reliability of a fully attentive Galileo's saggiatore, the picture may give a good idea of the differences.

The Max2 looks a bit washed out, but it may be a defect of my camera. The MaxCarta looks more contrasted, but those blocks can get very disturbing - the Max2 softens the rendering enough.
The renderings themselves, on the logical side, are possibly identical.

Interesting. In Booxtor's most recent post on the topic (#344 in this thread), his spec sheet shows 2 GB.

1 GB would be very disappointing. I hope the more recent post of 2 GB is more accurate.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see which it is.

Just ordered Max2, taking everything into consideration I believe it is a good fit for my needs.

I am a little disappointed that Note won't have hdmi and I don't expect anything better to show in the next 12 months or so. Booxtor mentioned that next-gen Max will start mass production around summer if everything goes well, but I don't expect big improvements. Probably bigger storage, maybe frontlight or bezeless screen, but the main hardware platform will most likely stay the same. Same as with Max and Max Carta.

I hope that Onyx will finally provide reliable software support and valuable updates. I am happy that they release so much great hardware lately but without proper software support it is wortless. Max2 issues thread is growing quite aggressively...

I am aware that Max2 is far from perfect but it is the best out there now. RP1 is severely limited with pdf handling only, Dasung's provides only monitor function, Remarkable is just good for notes.. And Max2 is comparable(if not better) with either of them in terms of pdf handling, monitor sharing, notes..

There is nothing on the horizon that can compete with Max2 on this niche market.
