21 days back on my low-carb way-of-eating.
I splurged the week before Thanksgiving because of the new menu rollout at the restaurant where I moonlight to bring in money to pay for a kid in college, and the entire week of Thanksgiving since I was on vacation. I heard someone say "'Tis the Season of Eating", and that is so true given all the holiday parties I've attended for work and church. Dieting puts a damper on the fun, but I'm happy not having that stuffed feeling after a big meal and my clothes fitting better! |

After holiday feasting, and over a week of total inactivity caused by battling flu (with lungs full of phlegm and non-stop coughing), I have a load of avoirdupois to shed.
No hope of any meaningful exercise until the coughing stops, so on to portion size control and cessation of snacks ..... sigh ... |

I'm now down 15 pounds since November. The key. Even though I'm not dieting. The key is eating 1000 calories a day or near to it. Stay away from potatoes.
All these years I thought it was bread that caused the weight as that's what the experts say. It was potatoes. I love them but right now they cause bloating so I stay away from them and the weight is just pouring off. My diet is pita bread, veggies and lean meat, thin sliced of cheese with a small amount of dressing. Mostly lean roast beef. I was able to raise my Hemoglobin from blood transfusion levels 7.8 to 8.1 in only a month eating lean roast beef pita sandwiches. I was just at the ER Wednesday and they did blood work. I found out my potassium is low so I added dried Apricots about six a day to my diet. Sent from my XT1528 |

I had gastric sleeve surgery just over a year ago, and have lost 100 pounds as a result, but now I’m fighting to break 200. My body seems bound and determined to stay at 202.
I joined Planet Fitness about three months ago, and between that, daily walks, and the exercise bike we have I’ve been doing pretty good with the physical activity. I've been using a Fitbit to make sure I get at least 10,000 steps in daily. As for the cocktail hour, issybird, that’s not a problem for me as I dislike alcohol. Not saying that to sound like a temperance crusader; it’s just the truth. A six-pack of beer over the course of a year is my idea of a binge. Mixed drinks are okay on a rare occasion (as in one or two every few years), but I don’t go out of my way looking for them. I do like egg nog and rum, but avoid it because of the calories. As for wine, I have tried multiple times to cultivate a taste for it because of all the health benefits we’ve all read about, but without success. After dinner snacks a Waterloo, poohbear_nc I? Yes, but unlike you I don’t have the option of not bringing them into the house, as my s.o. does that no matter what I do. And as I have very little willpower, it’s a constant struggle. Most nuts I can ration, but an entire can of cashews easily finds its way to my stomach every time. My only solution there is to only buy them when I can find one small single serving bag. My biggest thing is just to find the strength to resist all the cakes, cookies, candy, pastries, doughnuts, potato chips, and chocolate my wife brings into the house daily. |

If I eat more than 1000 calories or certain foods I bloat up and look seven months pregnant and it pushes on my diaphragm which is very uncomfortable. So I avoid everything that causes it. Potatoes, noodles, some types of rice. No hot food so no soup or broth, no extremely cold food like ice cream. Milk is something else I seem to not tolerate right now. So no ice cream. Nothing acidic. So no chocolate, juice. I can tolerate a small amount of fresh tomatoes. I had steamed broccoli the other night and it seem to do okay. I don't get hungry. I do get cranky if I don't eat but no hunger pains. It's really weird and totally not normal. Sent from my Nexus 7 |

If the apricots don't do the trick on your potassium levels, you might try picking up some potassium chloride (lite salt). I mix it 50/50 with normal salt in my salt shaker and I don't notice any taste difference. |

![]() I haven't weighed myself post-Christmas yet. I may pluck up the courage tomorrow. I too have a Fitbit (Blaze) to keep track of my step target (a less ambitious 7,000 steps than yours Tom) but have not even been making that on a regular basis lately. Too bloomin' cold to go out. |

That’s really hard Tom, having the tempting things in the house. Fortunately for me, my SO is also trying to keep his weight down, so while we do have treats, we limit how many are in the pantry. We managed to get through Christmas with only about a pound extra put on, which we have since pretty well shed again after working in the garden.
Blossom, you have my sympathy - that’s a miserable situation to be in. Is it stress related perhaps? A friend of ours has something similar and I think hers is linked to stress. |
