In general, these very short books are overpriced, at $6.99 for >200 page collections. $1.99 should be the regular price.

I believe this decision was made LAST year, when they didn't add a date into the thread title. In fact, they may have mentioned it in the final posts in the "2016" thread, but I'm not going back to look. It doesn't matter to me. I "subscribe" to the thread, and get an email about any new posts.

Apart from the admin time taken making the new threads, unsticking the old ones, sticking the news ones, the other motivator was indeed that people wouldn't need to make sure they subscribed to the new threads to continue getting notifications of new deals.

I'd agree with that, especially if you get email notifications - much less bother and no big deal.

A totally valid premise and one to which I wholeheartedly subscribe

As for consultation/discussion I've been a forum admin on quite a large UK forum for some years and our philosophy has always been to make changes first (sometimes consulting members, sometimes not) then see what the reaction is. AFAICS there is NO WAY any internet forum can possibly be a democracy: the admins and mods have a big responsibility to decide what's best for the forum (and that DOES mean its members!).
And in almost every case we've had more supporters (for our actions) than detractors - in the rare case we screw it up we apologise, do what the members wanted in the first place (! ) and get on with it. . . .

. . . all of which is a very longwinded way of saying THANKS to admins and mods - you do a great job and in this case objections are at most a minnow in an ocean!! (Mind you, if you had decided on a new thread I'd have been equally philosophical and written almost the same post ) .

The one thing I would like, though I do not know if it is possible, would be rather than the forums showing "(1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page)" they instead showed "(1 2 3 ... x y Last Page)" where x and y are the third and second last page numbers.

Kobo US is having a 60% off sale, as usual on a selected list, good through Jan 8. Although the lists are usually pretty grim, by sorting the Mystery category by ascending price and then looking at the first few, I found a few of interest (to me, at least) at good prices. Also these are Open Road titles, so if you have the Kobo VIP thing, you get that discount too.

Why not use the 'View First Unread' link at the top left when you open the thread? That's how I do it anyway.

That doesn't work if you are not logged in, and I rarely log in if I haven't anything to post.
