Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (a book who's popularity always struck me as odd) is $1.99 at Amazon.

Body Rides by Richard Laymon is $0.99 at Amazon. I've read a lot of Laymon, though I haven't read this one yet.

Neal has been carrying a gun in his car lately—just to be safe. And it looks like it's a good thing he has. When he spots a woman tied naked to a tree and a man ready to kill her, he has no choice but to shoot the attacker. As a reward, the woman gives Neal something unimaginable.

Neal's reward is a bracelet. A very special bracelet. It enables its wearer to step inside other people, to see through their eyes, to feel whatever they feel. To take "body rides." But Neal has a big problem. The man he shot isn't dead. And he wants revenge. First he's going to finish what he started with the woman. Then he's going after Neal...

Abandon by Blake Crouch is on sale for $1.99 at Amazon. I don't normally share books by authors I haven't read, but I am a sucker for stories of disappeared towns/people. Roanoke or the Mary Celeste. This looks like one of those.

On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman, and child in a remote gold-mining town disappeared, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins—and not a single bone was ever found.

One hundred sixteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them to the abandoned mining town so they can learn what happened. Recently, a similar party had also attempted to explore the town and was never heard from again. Now the area is believed to be haunted. This crew is about to discover, twenty miles from civilization with a blizzard bearing down, that they are not alone, and the past is very much alive.

The same author's Wayward Pines trilogy is also on sale, $1.99 a piece.

Scott Nicholson has a bunch of books on sale. Scott was a writer I discovered when he was issuing his books as paperback originals from Kensington.

I haven't read all of his books, but enjoyed those I read.

The Solom Trilogy is on sale for $0.99 a pop. These were originally released as a single book: The Farm, though looking at the page count on here, the story was greatly expanded. The three individual books are:

The Scarecrow
The Narrow Gate
The Preacher

He's also collected some books and short stories into a series of books with a Door theme. These collections are $0.99 a piece and are a very good deal:

Door To Evil - This collects the short stories Speed Dating with the Dead and The Dead Love Longer and the novel Drummer Boy

Door To Fear - Collects the novels The Home and The Red Church and the short story Burial to Follow. The Red Church was his first published novel.

Door to Chaos - Collection of Kiss Me or Die, Playin' Possum and Meat Camp. Not sure which are stories and which are books. I haven't read any of them yet. Meat Camp sounds like a hoot.

Thanks for posting this - I have been waiting for it to go on sale (and completely forgot to add it to my price watch).

"Bad Karma":

Actually, I have it hardcover! (I also own it as an ebook.) I picked up the hardcover when it was remaindered years and years ago.

But you know what? I don't think I've read it.

"...compared to The Pines..." Does that mean the Wayward Pines books aren't good? Or that Abandon is good, but not as good as the Pines books? I haven't read any of them yet.

"The Pines," a wonderfullly atmospheric horror novel by Robert Dunbar, originally published by Leisure.

Highly recommended.

Then, of course, there's "Pines," by Blake Crouch, a competent little novel.

In this case, we were referring to the Wayward Pines trilogy.

I do have Robert Dunbar's The Pines and The Shore. Isn't The Pines about The Jersey Devil?

I honestly can't remember. It does take place in New Jersey. It's also the first of a trilogy, but I've never read the other two.

You know how you sometimes have a great memory of reading something (in horror), with an oppressive evil that seems to dominate a book? That was the kind of book this was for me. I read it when it first came out. It's a character-driven novel, back when only a few authors could write horror novels with actual characters in them. (Stephen King, Bentley Little, and Peter Straub immediately come to mind.)

I think I've just convinced myself to go back and re-read it!

How about that? I have The Pines and The Shore, but didn't know they were linked (The Streets is the third book).

I really need to go through some of my old Leisure Horror books and do some catching up.
