I just wanted to drop a line and say that my new PW3 was successfully jailbroken using the instructions here. It was purchased in December and shipped with 5.8.10.1, and I had already registered the device with Amazon and used it for a couple of weeks before jailbreaking. I followed the directions in the first post, with a few notes:
* Used 5.7.4 for downgrade, since there were no reliable links for 5.8.9.0.1. * Used the nomax hotfix. * Updated to 5.8.11 after the jailbreak, at which point the Kindle required me to re-register with Amazon before use. While it was reset and on 5.7.4, it worked without being registered. The only huiccup I ran into was forgetting to reset before doing the downgrade, then resetting after the downgrade. ;installHtml didn't do anything. After a second downgrade (really a side-grade, since it was from 5.7.4 to 5.7.4), everything ran as expected. So for anyone in a similar situation, things look promising! Thanks everyone for all the great work done here. Edit: Though this worked for me, others haven't been so lucky. Be careful, and don't take my one point of data as solid evidence that the same will work for you. Last edited by sigismond0; 01-26-2018 at 01:25 AM. Reason: Disclaimer. |

There are reliable links for 5.8.9.0.1 -
You just have to ask for the password. In fact, there is a different thread for the PW3 devices. But is nice to hear that the stuff works on 5.8.10.1 also. |

As mentioned: Ask knc1 for the password.
![]() Can confirm the same procedure as sigismond1 (PW3, running 5.8.10.0.1 out of the box), except I've used the 5.8.9.0.1 factory test build for downgrading. No bootloops or any other Problems! ![]() Gesendet von meinem Google Pixel mit Yabba-Dabba-Talk. ![]() |

I have a PW3-32G, I updated it to 5.8.10 a few months ago.
One silly question: Would it be possible to downgrade and jailbreak by the above method? When I check the version in Settings, it only shows 5.8.10. Sorry if I have missed something from the above threads. |

If not jailbroken before that update to an user fw >= 5.8.8 (like yours): No chance.
The 5.8.10.0.1 discussed here is a special case: An "out-of-the-box" fw, not an user update. The latter definitively destroys the ability to downgrade. So the very first thing to do with a brand new Kindle is to leave it away from any Wifi network and then add the OTA blocker directory update.bin.tmp.partial to the root of the user storage before connecting the device to the internet. I guess we will need a model/firmware-version table to direct people to the correct description. It is getting too complicated for a text-only set of directions. Since the powers-that-be here took down the experimental KOA2 jail break directions in the Wiki yesterday, I think I will have to move the jail break support to one of my own web-sites. One that allows more than the original poster to edit a post. |

knc1, I just registered to this forum specifically to thank you for your massive contributions to all of us who want to control the devices that we, supposedly, own. Thanks

I have a KV which I used (and OTAd to 5.9.2.0.1) before finding out about jailbreaking, and would love to try whatever it is you did. So far a downgrade to 5.5.0 using the instructions in the wiki did not work, as expected. |
