			Hello,

I am hoping to get some help installing KSM and Koreader. I was given a Kobo Aura One for Christmas, and I've done some reading about best ways to read pdfs on the KA1. I read a lot of scientific papers, which are often pdf, so this is a functionality I require. The instructions on the thread seem very straightforward, but I am having trouble nonetheless. I can complete step 1, and have the menu pngs showing up in My Books, but then I'm lost. The only folder in my KOBOeReader device is the kbmenupngs I just put there. There is no ".kobo" folder for me to copy KoboRoot.tgz. I tried copying in to the root and I just wind up with dozens of images in My Books and no Start Menu. Any and all help much appreciated. EDITED TO ADD ok, i fugured out that part of the problem is that I'm using a Mac. I have copied KoboRoot.tgz to .kobo. i also downloaded the patch and copied the file the same way. I'm now at this step: "select (in KSM home) "handle update" > "install update" (do not select "install partial update") wait until the device has rebooted" when my kobo restarts I get a menu with the following options: front light on front light off info start nickel usb wifi configure tools scripts user scripts reboot power off how do i do the update??? That is the proper KSM (Home) menu. If KSM recognized that there was a .tgz file in the .kobo folder/directory it would also have the "handle update" option listed. So..., if you still need/want the patch, I guess you would need to try adding the patch .tgz file again. I don't know if it would cause a problem it you were to go ahead and put the koreader folder in the .adds folder/directory, and see if KOReader is working and appears on your KSM menu.

				Wi-Fi not working

I installed KSM and the patch along with koreader. It feels a little laggy (KSM) and I can't turn on the wi-fi. The firmware was updated to the latest version before installing KSM. I also patched the firmware before installing KSM.

Can't figure out the problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

Then I turned on the wifi and it didn't work (it can't even find any networks). They were working right before I installed KSM. |

				Nickel is not loading

			Hi everybody,

I am first time e-reader user, and I was pretty happy with my Kobo Aura One, recently had to start reading some pdfs and I found that the KA1 does not deliver a great pdf experience. I decided to install KSM 8 with the KA1 patch and KoReader. However after that, I was unable to boot back in to Nickel it just goes into endless loop of the 5 bars animation. KoReader boots fine. I'm afraid I can brick the device, without your help! My question is: Is there a way to fix Nickel? I don't care if i lose books, KSM or KoReader, I think I'll be happy with the stock firmware if it works properly. Here is a video to visualize the problem: goo.gl/yfRNb1 Any help would be appreciated! |

I can't watch the video at the moment, so I'm not sure if the following will work for you:

	* restart your KA1 * in the KSM menu, choose tools -> nickel diverse.msh -> start nickel no fmon.sh This might stop the bootloop. |

tools > activate > set runmenu settings.msh > alternateMenu. It is better not to uninstall KSM before making sure nickel can run. Last edited by tshering; 01-04-2018 at 04:00 PM. |

What happens if i patch the firmware again (i think i enabled the patch that turns off auto updates, maybe that is the problem). Do i need to uninstall KSM? |

The other point is that the KSM wifi enable function is not changed by the patch. So the problem should be somewhere else. What does happen, when you select "wifi > "wifi enable dhcp.sh" in KSM? Is there a note that two modules have been loaded? I am asking to exclude possible sources of error. Last edited by tshering; 01-05-2018 at 06:59 AM. |

I am glad nickel works again. Did you try what taos suggested? If this works, there is a high chance that we can make everything work smothly.

Yes, you will have to set up the device anew, including the registration. I do not think there is a need to factory reset the device. You can deinstall KSM, by selecting "tools" > "ksm diverse.msh" > del KSM.sh." There will be some remaining parts, that you can manually remove by deleting the folder .adds/kbmenu_user. Quote:

There are also other mods around to select between nickel and koreader, search for adv boot, fmon, and cute fmon, if you are interested. Last edited by tshering; 01-04-2018 at 06:18 PM. |

sdio wifi pwr.ko: not loaded dhd.ko: not loaded In nickel no wifi networks are detected (there are at least 10 detected on other devices) and if i try to add my network manually it says "wrong password". I hope you find a solution. |
