I would mind.

I would never buy ebook with adds. As someone said, editing errors are more than enough of distraction.

But aren't editing errors a bit different? They actually are embedded in the content, and you have to stop reading to figure out what was meant. At ad at the top of the page, for example, you just ignore same as you ignore the buttons and frame of the reader. IMO.

Why are we discussing this? Is anyone planning to release advertising-supported books?

I inserted the word you left out, Harry.

The topic was put up to get a rise I suspect.

Mass market paper backs have included advertising since before I was born.
Back in the 1960s glossy card stock cigarette adds were fairly common.

I cannot ignore it as I am sure it going to be a different add every other page, even if there are 5 different adds embedded, they are going to swap places and I will be distracted and violently snatched from the imaginary world that the book has created and taken me into.
Although, to a certain degree, I would agree with you about similarities with buttons, frame and general hardware appearance of the reader. That is the main reason I would never buy Kindle. Its fugly keyboard would completely destroy my reading environment/experience. That's why I love Sony Reader, it reminds me so much of a real book.

P.S. Kindle club wannabes please don't divert the topic to a holy war, take your anger with me somewhere else.

As long as the ads weren't too intrusive. I imagine many of the ads would be about new releases and tech related, it might be minimally interesting. I can deal with a few ads. There is a difference between a couple of ads watching TV, and 1 every few minutes a la very late night TV

Hello. Back in the days before cable.... we were told a beautiful tale about how paying for the service would eliminate commercial messages. I was but a youth and I believed. I doubt I will fall for that a second time.
Ads: I do not want them here or there... I do not want them ANYWHERE.

You people keep thinking you can control the content.

"As long as the ads aren't too intrusive"......

"okay, Mr. book reader, we promise!!!"

Or..... how about Lottery money going to fund education. That worked out so well.
But, I am from Illinois. We have a great deal to complain about here with our politicians. It keeps us busy.

See?? This is what people don't understand. Advertisers LIE, but they call it something else.

Much like politicians.

(I"m so sorry for you, joobies)

I'm against adds interspersed through a linear text, but we unfortunately all need a pee break. Consider adds as such.
