That's a shame. I was tempted to give it a go, as I'm a fan of much of his work, but now I'm not sure.

It's possible that I'm just not in the right mood. But it was a bit too silly for me, and not funny enough to make up for not being able to believe in the characters or the setup.

Currently reading IQ by Joe Ide which I'm enjoying very much for a debut novel the writing and characters are very good I can see that I will likely read more by this author.
I have not read any sherlock holmes but I feel this book is a riff on that character in fact it wouldn't surprise me if there are in-jokes that I'm missing in regards to that. Did Holmes have a book featuring big dogs by any chance? either way, I'm really enjoying it, I always seem drawn to books that have a strong sense of place which this one does (set in LA)

Recently started Afterlife by Marcus Stakey. Only 10% in, but hooked - this guy really knows how to write.

I just finished Pane and Suffering by Cheryl Hollon. A cozy mystery about a glass artist. I enjoyed it so much I'm starting the 2nd in the series, Shards of Murder, right away.

I re-reading Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, as I skimmed over it the first time around. I'm glad I'm reading it electronically this time. I read it as a hardcover before - it was a bit physically fatiguing.

Well, technically, astrangerhere, that's actually the very last of the Mobile Read Book Club selections, not one from the New Leaf Book Club, but a worthy read nonetheless. I listened to it last month, but might try a different narration before we get around to discussing it later this month, depending on what else gets in the way.

I'm spending today trying to finish two books started last month. A PD James Dalgliesh novel - The Death of an Expert Witness, and the first of Joseph Hansen's Dave Brandstetter novels, Fadeout. I really want to get them finished today, because I know I've got two books arriving tomorrow and another next Tuesday. All next books in favourite series, so pre-ordered.

OMG, I absolutely love that trilogy. Wish it would come out in digital form: my paperbacks are getting worn out.

Finished her Chanur's Venture, and now reading Cannibalism by Bill Schutt if only because I didn't load Kif on the tablet yet. An oversight to be rectified shortly, to be sure.

Currently Reading.

Hello guys,

I just picked up Molly's Game by Molly Bloom. I saw the movie in theaters and enjoyed it so much that I decided to order the book on my Kindle. I want to get all the gritty details about the high stakes celebrity poker underworld. Sometimes movies just don't tell it all like a fine book.

New year and I am already forgetting to update...
  • I finished Whose Body
  • I read two excellent short stories - "Maiden, Mother, Crone" by Ann Leckie and Rachel Swirsky and "Any Number of Little Old Ladies" by Bruce Jay Friedman
  • I started my year-long re-read of the hardcover Pevear and Volokhonsky translation of War and Peace (there are 365 chapters, so one-a-day, give or take)
  • I almost done with Joan Didion's Slouching Towards Bethlehem essay collection on my Kobo
  • I am almost done with an excellent audio re-read of Virigina Woolf's A Room of One's Own

I started F&SF for Jan/Feb 2018. But while reading that, I've also done a re-read of The Ship Who Searched. A fun, quick read.

Finished Emergence, the 19th and latest book in the Foreigner series from CJ Cherryh. This was an excellent addition to the series, resolving some long standing issues while setting the stage for more conflict and resolution in later volumes. Without being a huge cliff-hanger. I admit, I'd like more Bren and less Cajeiri, but still, and excellent addition.

Next up, Neogenesis, the 21st book in the Liaden Universe. For this, I'm doing an Audible version this time. On my Kindle, I haven't decided what's next.
