You where using the link name shown, not the full filename.
You must use the full filename, not the link name.

Hi all, came across this thread too late and erroneously tried to jailbreak my 5.8.10 PW3 via this guide: https://www.ereader-palace.com/downg...n-2016-method/

I flashed update_PW3_5.7.4_initial.bin and it went through the downgrade process (took about 10 mins). Everything seemed to succeed, but now my device is in a bootloop: https://i.imgur.com/IeKMj3c.jpg

Initially after the bootloop, my Kindle was still recognized when connected to USB, so I tried moving an empty DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file and rebooting. Now it is continuing to bootloop and my device is no longer recognized via USB.

Any chance of recovering from my mistake?

That 5.7.4 is too old, people have reported that it boot-loops when it restarts, not sure why, but it is something fairly recent.

You refer to my posting. It's not meant as strict as actually written: If you've created the OTA blocker dir first, you won't get the nasty autopupdate. In this case you also can register and use the device online as intended.

Your problem could have been the "testing" of the voiceview files update. Because I guess that this downgrade is possible ONLY ONCE - and for jailbreaking, you have to use this "single shot" for downgrading to the initial factory build, not just testing...

Can you elaborate more on the testing of the voiceview files? I did notice a voiceview (or something voice related) directory after downgrading. Just returned the bricked Kindle for a replacement and would like to ensure that I don't mess up the next time around.

Take the safest course:
Do the entire jailbreak procedure BEFORE installing the VoiceView files.
Where: "entire" includes loading a relatively current customer firmware build.
5.8.11 is currently a good choice.
It is still on the amazon server, if unsure of how to download it, ask, someone will guide you.

That's the part I'm confused about. I never installed the VoiceView files. I downgraded to 5.7.4, but the Kindle bootlooped. After that, I copied an empty DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file to the root directory to try to restore. At this point, there were no VoiceView files present. Not sure what it did after that, but the bootloop persisted and the VoiceView files showed up.

Brand New, Never connect to Internet and Unregistered. In airplane mode at the moment. Language set to US. Can I set to UK instead?
