I don't know what the default serif font is. But I do know it's not a slab serif.

I am not sure if Bookerly is considered slab serif since the serifs are round instead of square. Could not find any information that will definitely say one way or the other. But on my Oasis 2 the default serif font is in fact Bookerly as you can see in the picture.

But did you have Publisher Font selected? If not, you'll have to do it over again.

Without having publisher font enabled, a simple
Code:
<p style="font-family:serif">lalala</p>
wouldn't have changed the fonts at all, but simply override them with whatever font would have been selected instead.

And yes, publisher font was enabled. The embedded fonts were not used in that page, no default font selected in the body, only those two duplicate paragraphs had fonts changed - first one to serif, second to bookerly.
