Where it said "tested on my K4?
The K4 was the last model that did not have login by password disabled. All of the K5 devices, since Amazon went to the full image updates, has had password login (for 'main') disabled.
When you generate a password for a K5 from the serial number, you are generating the password used in the 'diags' system, not the 'main' system.

Hi, has anyone successfully downgraded PW2 from 5.8.11? I tried with 5.4.5.1 and 5.4.3.2, but in first case I get Error 16, and in second Error 12. Is that even possible, or I can fuggedaboutit?

It just impossible with FW > 5.8.7.

Only if you are already jail-broken or via serial port. There are posts elsewhere detailing how in either case.

Guys, I am looking at a second hand Kindle Paperwhite 3 I a can buy. According to this website:

I recently purchased a Kindle Basic 2 (Black 2016) and jailbreaked it. I successfully downgraded from 5.8.10 (3202100019) to 5.8.0 (2976190044). I followed the Important notice for KOA/KT3 owners and installed the Booklet version of KUAL manually with Update_KUALBooklet_v*_install.bin and entering ;log mrpi in the Homescreen's searchbar. Everything works fine for now. I now want to upgrade to a more recent firmware version but want to check here if someone can recommend a specific firmware version or if the recent version is just fine. Thanks for all the effort and hard work, I really appreciate it!

Be careful with that website, I have heard there is a possibility to change from a Paperwhite to a paperweight.

Not every step of the jailbreak. You will have to reinstall KUAL and any other hacks.

There is a single, complex, special case for 5.8.9.0.1 firmware version. If you get a Kindle with that firmware version, please just post in this thread before you do anything to it, your device **might** be one of the rare exceptions.
