Quote:
“Intrigue abounds…. Robb’s captivating blend of history and mystery vividly evokes medieval Scotland.” —BOOKLIST

By acclaimed author Candace Robb, the Margaret Kerr series chronicles one woman’s search for the truth amidst the Scottish struggle for independence against the tyranny of the English crown.

In A TRUST BETRAYED, Margaret searches for her missing husband after his disappearance in Edinburgh, but finds that the simmering rebellion has turned the ruined city into a web of lies and hidden motives that threaten anyone who digs too deep for the truth.

In THE FIRE IN THE FLINT, Margaret and her family become the target of a series of violent raids, but what the raiders are looking for remains a mystery. As Margaret becomes more deeply involved in the rebellion, attention turns to her mother, a seer who has had visions of the “true king of Scotland.”

In A CRUEL COURTSHIP, Margaret heads to Stirling Castle on a mission to discover the fate of a young spy for the rebellion. As her travels bring her closer to the castle, however, she begins to have dreams—or are they visions?—of impending danger. The historic battle of Stirling Bridge is nearing, and the fate of Scotland rides on the outcome…

Together, these stories offer a richly detailed and beautifully written account of medieval Scotland and a young woman’s awakening.

Bargain @ $1.99 in Canada & the US from Penguin's Berkley imprint (should be the same price at the usual retailers):

Where There's A Will by Aaron Elkins (SYKM), 12th in his popular and award-winning and very enjoyable Gideon Oliver series starring a forensic anthropologist, of which #1-10 are regularly put on sale by Open Road Media and #18 is from an Amazon imprint which sporadically discounts it. The Penguin books in-between rarely go on sale and are apparently not available as e-books in the UK.

I binge-read the lot years ago and IIRC, while not necessary one of the better books storywise, this was one of the twistier cases with a surprising but fitting explanation for what really happened if you have an especial fondness for that sort. All of the Gideon Oliver adventures are self-contained and rarely make references back to previous cases (never spoilers for whodunnits, IIRC, but sometimes guest stars reappear who were suspects back then) and there aren't dramatic personal developments to follow from book to book, so you can safely read them as standalone.

Edgar® Award–winning author Aaron Elkins’s creation—forensics professor Gideon Oliver—has been hailed by the *Chicago Tribune* as “a likable, down-to-earth, cerebral sleuth.” Now the celebrated Skeleton Detective unearths a wealthy family’s darkest secrets…

Alex Torkelsson has just gotten word: his late uncle Magnus’s plane has been found south of Hawaii’s Big Island after ten long years. So too have Magnus’s few skeletal remains, now handed over to the only man who can fit together the pieces of this mystery...

What forensic detective Gideon Oliver discovers could shake the Torkelsson family tree to its very roots. But this time his work is yielding more questions about the past than answers. Questions about the long-ago execution-style murder of Magnus’s brother...about a mysterious will that benefits—as well as incriminates—its heirs...and most disturbing of all: questions as to the true identity of the corpse in the lagoon. As lie upon lie is revealed, Gideon’s only hope is to let the bones of the dead condemn the living—before the living take revenge.

Elusive is the first in the "On the Run" series by Sara Rosett, who is probably better known for her Elly Avery/Mom Zone series. The DTB of this was published by McGuffin Ink - I'm not quite sure about this publisher, but SYKM lists this and several other titles in the series, so I figure it's not too hinky. Elusive is free right now at Kindle and Kobo US and Kindle UK. Probably free at Kobo UK too, I'm just too lazy to check...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Elusive-Run-I...dp/B0094HZVWC/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/elusive
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elusive-Run...dp/B0094HZVWC/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Perfect for fans of Elizabeth Peter's Vicky Bliss series or Peter Mayle's mysteries. Elusive blends light-hearted adventure, mystery, international travel, and light romance.

Zoe Hunter loves living on the edge. Free-spirited and spontaneous, she’s built a life stringing together various freelance gigs that keep her bank account barely in the black.

But when her ex, Jack, goes missing along with several million dollars from his business and the FBI zeros in on her as a person of interest, Zoe’s life goes from delightfully unpredictable to downright frightening.

Plunged into a world of fake identities, deception, and murder, she’s afraid to trust anyone. Zoe impulsively skips town in a search for answers that takes her from Las Vegas to Italy, but instead of tracking down answers, she only uncovers more questions.

Who was Jack? Is he dead or did he fake his disappearance? And, what was he mixed up in—art theft, the mafia, espionage, or all three?

Someone to Watch Over Me is the fifth in the Thóra Gudmundsdóttir series by Yrsa Sigurdardóttir. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. Due to different publishers, this series doesn't seem go on sale in the US very often, but a bunch of titles were on sale in the UK and some in Canada a while back (thanks, @ATDrake), so check carefully if you travel a lot...

I've read and quite liked all of the titles in this series so far.

Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/som...tch-over-me-33

Spoiler:
Quote:
Bestselling and award-winning Icelandic crime author Yrsa Sigurdardottir is back with the next book in her Thóra Gudmundsdóttir series. SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, the fifth installment in the Thóra Gudmundsdóttir series, was named Crime Novel of the Year by the Sunday Times.

A young man with Down's Syndrome has been convicted of burning down his assisted living facility and killing five people, but a fellow inmate at his secure psychiatric unit has hired Thora to prove Jakob is innocent. If he didn't do it, who did? And how is the multiple murder connected to the death of a young woman, killed in what was supposed to be a hit-and-run?
