Google.
With as secondary sources Humble Bundle, Weightless books, Kobo, and various publisher websites). I don't think I would bother with many public domain books anymore, I have plenty in my library but never end up reading them. |

This thread has been illuminating. Thanks.
For me personally, it's primarily Amazon Kindle these days, with a little bit of Baen and Delphi Classics. |

Interesting. I find Amazon by far the most hassle-free retailer to buy books from. What problems have you experienced with them, Geoff?

He has a Kobo, I don't buy from Amazon for the same reason, more effort than it's worth to have everything installed needed to download, remove DRM & convert.

Fair enough. I do that for all my books, because if there's one thing I've learned over the years it's never, ever, to trust anyone other than yourself to keep your books safe for you. I only consider a book to be "mine" when it's sitting, DRM-free, in my Calibre library. The process of getting it from the store into that happy state is easier with Amazon than with any other bookstore.

I use both because, although Amazon generally have the best selection and prices, from time to time there's a good sale at sites like Kobo (or other ePub bookstores) that I take advantage of.

Yes, and if (as I do) you have K4PC set up as your "Default Device" at Amazon, books get sent there automatically on purchase, so it's just a case of buying the book, running K4PC (which causes any bought books to download) and copying from there into Calibre.

I use mainly Amazon, with the occasional purchase from Baen and sometimes an authors website. I haven't bought from Kobo in some time. I would like to but I find them second rate compared to Amazon. Their prices are also too high. And yes, I know about the price match, but wny would I go to the hassle for every book I purchase. Amazon simply does it better. For Public Domain I use the usual sites mentioned here, though Standard is new to me. Thanks Zod! One PD source not mentioned here which I find useful is the following:
Adelaide University EBooks So far as I'm aware this site includes books which are in the Public Domain in Australia. Some books available here may not be in the Public Domain in your Country. Last edited by darryl; 11-29-2017 at 06:02 AM. |
