But it is essential reading. Or listening (isn't there an audio version, or am I imaging things again?)

I have never seen any positive posting concerning us (the book assemblers) on this forum from you. Is there a reason for that ?
Well, I have assembled a few books myself; and one of them (a bible) could be seen as a double!
Perhaps it is that you perceive I'm only posting negative comments about book assemblers, which would be silly to do so, since I have uploaded some myself, therefor commenting bad about myself? If I would do so that would probably be because things can be improved! A wise person takes negative comment and uses it to improve!
That's what I did when a user suggested a different formatting on one of my books;but leaving that aside,

In previous post I'm just stating a fact, that has nothing to do with the book assemblers, just with the library; that you need to take things in perspective. 9000 files does not mean different 9000 books!

Check out how many books there are of:
- Robinson Crusoe
- King James Bible
-...(just to name a few where there are at least triples present, or more, and I think I've still left out many).

I don't need to even start saying how many books are doubles;you can figure that out yourself if you want to spend the time browsing through the library.

Also some are books available in different languages.
And most of all most books uploaded are available in at least 3 formats; so they're uploaded trice.

Those are all valid arguments to state that the library has considerably less than 9000 books; perhaps even less then 2500 unique books.

I think this in no way could be seen as an offense towards book assemblers, unless one is over sensitive and takes everything personal.

Unless someone goes and counts the unique books in the library, a rough estimation like this is probably the closest to reality we can get to how many unique books are in the lib.

A good place to start analyzing is our ebook listing in html or txt format.

Not saying you need to, but it does alphabetically list, by Author mostly, all 9000+ ebooks that have been uploaded, irrespective of any duplicates (ebooks format and/or different uploads).

After removing the most obvious duplicates from the txt (delete the format, delete the date, delete the "IMP" and "epub" labels, delete any identical consecutive lines), I get some 4540 books (less than 50% of the total), that's still an upper bound, as there are duplicates remaining (where the titles differ in capitalization or punctuation, or where different versions are uploaded in different threads).

Yes, that's it, threads with any number of attachments. When I create a new thread to upload an ebook to the IMP ebook forum, I usually attach two versions; one for the EBW1150 and another for the REB1200. It only counts as one ebook upload (thread) though. But if I also upload the other three main ebook formats, then the thread (ebook) count will increase by three (i.e those ebook uploads being the same ebook; just different reader format!).

IMHO, there is no need to focus on unique ebooks or duplicated ones; the sheer number of uploads is the accomplishment, be it, 9,000+ threads/ebooks or 4,500+ unique ebooks (it's still more than I will ever read in my lifetime).

Interesting. I didn't know that. Sorry for the wrong info I've given, then.

Concerning ProDigit: I prefer staying a philosopher. So no comment.

You're right of course, although the balance is "tipped" somewhat the other way by all the "omnibus editions" I've uploaded, which generally contain at least 4 and sometimes as many as 10 different books (I think my "record" so far is the ERB "Barsoom" omnibus, which contains 12 books).

And then there are Nick's (nrapallo) REB IMP versions of the Harvard Classics that I posted in LRF, PRC (Mobi), and IMP. He converted them and posted five (5) together in one download. He's offered to do this again whenever I get around to making the corrections and issuing version 2 of the series.

With his additions, the REB IMP is often a more advanced book than the original MR postings since an inline TOC was generally missing from many of the early books. (For most of those the only avaliable TOC would be via the TOC button on the Sony Reader. Nick's work with the files taught me a great deal about how I assemble and produce books for MobileRead. I am a better "publisher" today thanks to his efforts and questions back then.

Thanks Nick.
