Very off topic: My dad is 92. He worked at Sperry Univac his whole life. So he remembers the 'room size' computers. I had a 64gb micro SD card with me one time when I was visiting with him, showed it to him, and explained to him just how much data it would hold. He was amazed.
My parents were born in 1925/1926. So they remember when having a radio (which went off at sunset, by the way) was special. It just amazes me how far technology has come in their lifetime. I can't imagine how far it will go in mine.

Cool - have fun with your Clip

I'd love to see where we are in a hundred years, but alas, tubemonkey will unravel way before then

I've always loved radios - from "pocket" transistor radios to clock radios to tuners in stereo systems to internet radios to radios in smartphones to the Amazon Echo. Amazing how far we've advanced.

Now my radio of choice is the Echo Dot with the TuneIn Radio app that'll play thousands of radio stations around the world by voice command.

If tubemonkey has a faithful attendant with a sewing needle and some thread, he will never unravel because we know he is made of high quality long duration materials! Unfortunately, his banana won't last nearly as long.

I noticed today that if you go through Ebates, you get 6 percent back on Amazon Echo devices. As was mentioned earlier, Ebates is also giving 3 percent back on Fire tablets.

I finally caved and bought myself an 8-inch Fire tablet, as well as a couple of Dots for gifts.

The app is built-in, so no need to add it. The Echo has the following audio apps built-in:
  • Amazon Music
  • Prime Music
  • Spotify Premium
  • Pandora
  • iHeartRadio
  • TuneIn
  • SiriusXM
  • Audible
  • Kindle

I did some shopping online. But it was an Amazon deal of the day and not a black Friday deal.

I was tempted to get a dot or a home mini this year. In the end, I decided an ordinary Bluetooth speaker was enough of a leap forward in technology instead. I find I don't remember the names of albums/songs I want to hear, easier to pick them off a list on my phone. It's been fun to browse through Amazon music unlimited and find obscure music that I haven't thought about in years.

I just bought my son a Dot for Christmas; although I'd consider it a bit more than a stocking filler.

I caved on the Dot plus smart plug. And I'm going to test the ice with a nephew and a niece and may go back.

That said, Downpour has been my biggest downfall and I may not be done there, either.

Yep, my Dad's 93 and used to listen to Buck Rogers on an AM console radio that was powered by a car battery. Even I can remember starting with vacuum tube radios -- and tying to track down and replace the burned out ones.

Now Dad has an Echo and reads on a Kindle. Talk about Buck Rogers.

I don't remember the Tubed Radios BUT I remember our 1st TV 4" screen & a Huge heavy cabinet & being dragged to Peoples Drug Store [now CVS] While she Tested & replaced those Vacuum Tubes! Mom was into the Radio Soaps & just transferred that to TV. The Longest running on she was into ended 2 weeks after she died.
