The Fire HD 8 is a great size for reading. Screen resolution is better than the 7-inch, you'll appreciate the longer battery life, and the dual speakers sound very good.

I'm quite happy with this case for mine: Poetic Slimline Premium Fabric Slim-Fit Lightweight Trifold Cover with Auto Sleep/Wake Amazon Fire HD 8 2017. It's only $6.95 right now, which is a great price (I paid more)! It does tend to fray around the edges, but that hasn't been a big issue for me.

Thanks for the recommendation for a case. That is indeed a great price, but I'd want a case with a hand strap, as I have for my 7-inch.

I actually was going to get the paperwhite however I noticed the basic kindle says "Audible available in coming months" whereas the paperwhite lacks this feature.

The audible thing is probably because the 8th gen kindle (which is the current basic kindle) has bluetooth hardware but the 7th gen Kindle Paperwhite (the current PW3) doesn't.

I have been waiting for the Fire HD10 to go on sale for $100, and it did! I saw this last night on Best Buy where Best Buy immediately matches Amazon's sales and removes them the instant the Amazon sale ends. My question is will Amazon continue this sale all week til the Monday after Thanksgiving which, if I understand it correctly, is when the Black Friday sales end? (Or at least til Black Friday if the Black Friday sales don't actually go til Monday.) Or might it end without warning at any time?

With respect to the Basic Kindle ($50 now) will it just be Audible e-books that will be enabled in coming months or will it be able to play oridinary mp3 podcasts or any mp3?

As far as I know, Amazon hasn't announced when the $99.99 Fire HD10 offer will end.

On the first page of this thread here, it states the Fire HD10 is listed at $99.99 in Black Friday ads for Meijer, Staples, and Target, so I'm guessing Amazon will have it at that price then, too.
