By the way: you did not do it with the MaxCarta? That's a biiig map. ; ) By the way: I will probably publish my modifications to Mobac in the relevant thread. Download maps, and optimize them for EPD. I understand but that's of course overkill: just setting the mapping software right will make your battery last months. Of course, with EPD, the more you go dynamic the more battery shortens - we pay all screen updates.

And we understand, even if we are not in (the first line of) the game, that production has compromises. Ask yourself: why not rk3288? More speed, better battery - on paper. But if nobody uses that yet, the snapshot of relevant combined global R&D effort (also and especially as preliminary to mass production) must not be mature. Edit: if you could take any smartphone, and connect the EPD screen to the special slot on the board... ; ) Not really Last edited by mdp; 11-08-2017 at 02:37 AM.

Had just added the bit about wifi to show that I don't really have a lot of need to be connected to anything when I am out on a trail. Hadn't made my case for it at the time. Would love to have it with me. But space is always my problem when hiking. If I were to take my Max, I would have to leave the kitchen sink behind.

Thanks mdp. In the mean time Onyx confirmed what I though: that my M92 will not perform well with an external keyboard. I still think the Boox Laptop was a good idea. But I very much like the looks of the "Onyx BOOX Canvas": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2eKxeR2uHE I guess I'm used to my white M92. But the Canvas screen is a bit lager, and would be perfect for writing with an external keyboard. For typing texts in documents so far I use the free version Jarte on my laptop. Jarte is like WordPad but has extra features like spell checking, word count etc., and the Jarte documents can easily be converted to PDF with a click (tap) or two. The width of the Jarte page I write on would nicely fit within the frame of the Carta. So I'm already used to that width for writing, although I can zoom it wider using 2 fingers on my touchpad, but never do. (The max length of sentences in Jarte is 16 cm or 6.5 inches on my laptop 15.6" screen when not zoomed wider.) So now I wonder whether the Carta can also be used with an external keyboard. I suppose it can. Last edited by Lode; 11-08-2017 at 10:27 AM. |

Thank you much, SnowRipple. Yes, that might be a better idea. I had seen a clip of the E-Note and saw it had a 10.3" screen, reason I wrote is was a bit larger than my M92. So I mixed links and name and thought it was the Carta: "Onyx Boox e-Note 10.3 E-Ink Carta Refresh with Wacom pen, next gen Onyx Boox 9.7" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CF1RZ-UVCA I found some info on the Note, for example: "Onyx Boox e-Note 10.3″ eReader to Ship in September" https://the-digital-reader.com/2017/...hip-september/ As often happens, it was not September... but I'll ask Onyx "when?" Onyx let me know: 1. Our 10.3" Note may be released in January; 2. Our Max carta could not use USB connection instead of bluetooth; 3. The keyboard needs to be bluetooth 2.0 or above; 4. Yes, you need to download IA writter or any other similar apk, the apk should support Android 4.0. Our 10.3 Note can be compatible with bluetooth 4.1 devices, that means it could also compatible with bluetooth 4.0, ……an earlier version。 |

Maybe they don't charge shipment, but still need to add VAT and duty tariffs, so at least in my country would be 650 + 21% + 5% = more than from ereader store.

The ereader-store store offers a two year warranty, I believe. And Booxtor has a solid reputation when it comes to resolving issues. He was very prompt at responding to the couple of questions I had after purchasing my Max, and he has also gone out of his way to assist others with issues who had bought their ereaders elsewhere. Just something to consider.

Onyx spread the word that, since USB-OTG may drain the battery to the extent of bringing the device to comatose levels, they prefer to over-defend the average user. But Neru recently published a way to enable USB-OTG on apparently all Android devices. (I have not tested it yet.) Reminder: you can thank him with karma points... Look at the thread on the M92, there is the same discussion : a possible best price compare to a reasonable price with a VERY good support even for the people that don't have bought their device in the Booxtor's shop and a warranty/guaranty (read the same thread about the differences between this two terms) of two years in Europe. My choice is done. I've bought my M92 in the Booxtor's shop, I'm going to command the Max 2 in the Booxtor's shop.
