Many cities have now allowed a limited number of hens. A useful resource is www.backyardchickens.com.

eggs: 50 cents difference to the next size of eggs? Wow. Back in the 90's (early internet), I read a government pamphlet stating: if the difference between a dozen of one size and a dozen of the NEXT size is 10 cents or less, the bigger ones are a better value for the money. Volume-wise. So, since mine are usually priced exactly 10 cents apart, I get the X-Large eggs. Jumbo would be an even better buy (another 10 cents) but then the size starts affecting baking results. |

If I had to keep chickens, it would be a problem due to the coyote pack that resides in the copse on our property. (sigh). I was thinking about keeping some geese, as a home-security system of the rural kind, but same thing--don't want to have to deal with murdered geese. (Or the goats I thought about keeping for lawn maintenance and goat's milk.) Hitch |

I open the carton and LIFT, not just visually check. If an egg is stuck in place, it won't come out and I'm minus an egg. I don't mind people swapping a cracked egg into a carton which is accumulating all the bad ones.

With regard to a misbehaving Firefox and Thunderbird...
- I've created a new profile and deleted the old one. - I've updated all the drivers, except those for the Intel Graphics card; the driver I'm using is the last one with Gamma Correction (Intel removed this setting from newer versions, and I've ranted about that before). - I've removed the Intel Rapid Storage driver, which I installed more than a year ago to circumvent some sort of bug/regression in Windows; with the standard drivers, the computer would freeze randomly. Installing RST fixed that. (And I've ranted about that as well.) At this time, Firefox and Thunderbird seem to behave normally again, not hanging the computer for a second or so when starting or performing an action such as opening a tab/e-mail. As I've not done anything to Thunderbird, the fix must have been one of the driver updates or the removal of RST. Sometimes, I hate computers. As Dijkstra said somewhere in the 60's: If we would build houses like we build software, everything would fall apart days after being finished. |

Same here. I make sure all twelve are unbroken and that they can move freely (not stuck).

What in the name of whatever is THAT? It looks like a rattified piranha. I'm not scared that easily, but if I'd meet something like that, especially more than one, I'd probably... run. Fast.
edit: and both Firefox and Thunderbird started jacking around again for whatever reason. Can't think of anything else to do. Both programs have been cleaned up, all drivers have been upgraded, and Windows itself is cleaned. edit2: and 10 minutes later, they're both fine again. Daaaaaarnn....
