The Note (the screen ES103TC1) is A5+ , the Max (the screen ES133TT3) are A4 "usable space".
10.3'' = 26.2 cm => 20.9 × 15.7 ≃ 21×14.8 (A5 full extended) 13.3'' = 33.8 cm => 27.0 × 20.3 ≃ 29.7×21 (A4 inner) Last edited by mdp; 11-07-2017 at 02:35 PM. |

I can understand. However, as I already have the Max, it might be nice to try a different size.
If the Note works well and runs Android 6, I would likely be able to install one of my map apps on it. The size of the Note would be much better than the Max2 for when I'm hiking in the mountains. Currently, I use an 8 inch tablet for this, but the problem is that it is difficult to see the screen in sunlight. It also uses more power. On a multi-day trip, one can run the risk of running out of power (which is why I usually also have a paper map with me as well). However, on an eink device, I wouldn't have either of those problems. So I am seriously considering the Note. Just wish they had included a micro SD card slot. |

It is released less than three months after the only Android based EPD device using a similar board. Previous delays reportedly came from E Ink Corporation's inability to deliver the display.
The product you make reference to has the same name but is not the same project. |

I just posted something on this ancient treat:
"eink reader -- external keyboard?" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=162975 Which I copy here: "Writing on the e-ink Kepler Tablet from Onyx with BT Keyboard" "Writing on the e-ink Kepler Tablet from Onyx with BT Keyboard using the Texteditor app." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywYzZuZmLjc Seems a bit of a hassle. It would be much easier if Onyx would bring out a plug and play keyboard. Onyx let me know some time ago: "Sorry, after analysis, we are not going to released BOOX Writer, cause now our device could connected with a bluetooth keyboard to be a typewriter." So I just asked them if it might be a good idea for Onyx to make a keyboard for their latest e-readers... I would prefer a USB connection, but don't know if that would work on their latest models, nor even whether they have USBs. I don't know much about these things, but am still enjoying my white M92 I bought from Booxtor not long after it came out. I even used it once in those days to post on this forum to prove it could be done. But it required a lot a patience... I suppose that one might be too slow to work easily with an external keyboard even if it was possible at all. Last edited by Lode; 11-07-2017 at 05:06 PM. |

Have you checked my experience/contributions in the relevant thread? Anyway, to be fair: -- if the glance is quick (driving a car, arm distance) than you miss the extra dimension given by colour -- if you keep it on constant wake (e.g. through GPS), the battery will drop pretty fast, in a few hours. But in general and otherwise - yes, it's certainly a good idea! By the way (not expressed in that thread, I believe): you can modify Mobac (Mobile Atlas Creator) to create PNG16 maps ![]() |

Already i.MX 6SoloLite based devices were fast enough to write hefty books with acceptable compromise (given some caveats discussed elsewhere). Last edited by mdp; 11-07-2017 at 05:16 PM. |

I have a KA1, and, yes, it is a very good device. Love it for so many reasons.
Unfortunately, I can't install apps on it. Currently, I would have to use my tablet to take a screenshot of the relevant map, copy it onto a usb stick, transfer it to a computer and then sideload it onto my KA1. Not a difficult process. I have done it and it works. But it takes a bit of time and one needs access to a computer. That can be difficult when traveling and when one sometimes changes one's route mid hike. Nor would I be able to draw on any map that I manually loaded into my KA1. On the Note, assuming I could install my intended app, I would be able to have all relevant maps preloaded. All I would have to do is open them up. I could then also take a screenshot of any map and draw or make notes on it. I might also be able to use the image as a screensaver so that I could look at it without the power on. in short, it could prove a very useful device for hiking. |

Colour is not a huge concern for the maps that I have in mind. They are special Japanese trail maps solely intended for hiking. Nor is GPS needed. Only need to download the maps once via wifi, and then they are on my device. If I were able to save an image of that day's intended hike as a screensaver, I would hardly need to turn on the device at all unless I wanted to record some information on the map which could also prove handy. |
