Got my new Oasis today, first impressions

The volume changes if you use the BT volume controls. That's it. You can't read and listen, you can only do one thing. If you are reading you can't listen so i'm not sure whats the point of changing the volume if the Bluetooth headphone is not on.

I think they are checking to see if you can turn pages with a bluetooth click. Volume control buttons often change the pages in reading apps.

I'm not sure I can test that. I think going back to reading disconnects the headphones.

In some reading programs on Android the volume control would change the pages while reading, a remote page turner--big point. It's the one thing that's keeping me from purchasing so really disappointing. Maybe later with jailbreak, if it's still possible to jb in the future.

I have an adaptor for my car I was able to try, that has "play/pause", skip, and back.

skip and back did not do anyhting outside of the audiobook, but they did work in the audiobook.

I contacted @bestbuysupport on twitter and they said holiday return SHOULD apply. Go figure.

That is the second-best trick.
The first thing you should do is set the margins to the bare minimum - somewhere between 0.5 and 3 millimeters [0.02" (5/265" ) and 1/8"], depending on whether the screen is flush with bezel or sunk deeply below the bezel level.
I am not sure whether the new Oasis lets you to select such small margins. It does seem to have better and finer choice of font sizes. I am not sure about available line spacings - this is another trick for getting more text on screen.

One of numerous complaints I had about the previous generations of Kindles were the three available margin sizes - Large, Very Large and Ridiculously Large

IIRC correctly, the dictionary font size is set to the third smallest font size. I think you can change it using the FONT_RAMP trick. Search this forum for FONT_RAMP. There's a discussion in one of the oasis threads, if not this one.

There are still only 3 margin size choices. The smallest margin size on the 7" Kindle Oasis is slightly larger than the smallest margin choice on the Kindle Voyage.

OK, now I'm curious and my Best Buy never has recent model Kindles. On my Aura One with the full screen hack, the text measures about 4½" across. How does this compare to the KOA2 set at the smallest margins?

3.65", but the screen is 4.2" so this is 1/4" margins. I'm guessing 1/5" margins for Kobo Aura One with full screen hack?

It's roughly 1/16"; the text goes just about edge-to-edge. Then I pulled out my H2O and the text with full screen is a hair under 4".

Thanks. I vaguely remember that Kobos with the hack got almost edge-to-edge and no stock Kindle is anywhere near that.
