I don't see any "colors" per se, but I do see that more vivid white in some parts of the screen. Here are a few pictures. Bear in mind these images are me holding the Oasis one orientation, and then the other. You can still pretty easily see how the bright area flips. I'm not a huge fan of playing the exchange game again, and I'm going to absolutely assume they're all like this based on another person's impressions I already read here:

Anyway, here are my pictures:

For me, who is HYPER sensitive to this sort of thing, the uneven illumination stands out like a sore thumb. It doesn't change tint like previous gen Kindles with the green/red, but it does gets more yellow in parts of the screen which can cause the illusion of tint. Either way, another year that Amazon still can't get it right, which is a shame.

Still, this is absolutely the closest they've gotten.

Would you not perhaps be better off with a backlit tablet, William? No light diffuser can produce the absolutely even illumination that's a requirement for you. It's not a question of "Amazon not getting it right", but the physics of light diffusers.

They are very similar to my eyes... but I also have the font size and boldness set to my liking. Both screens look excellent to me.

I really do not enjoy the eye strain associated with reading for extended periods of time on tablets. I have an 2017 iPad Pro 12.9. It's great as a tablet or computer etc, but I really do miss reading on e-ink. Nothing compares.

Clearly it's possible to have more even illumination with a light diffuser. Amazon edges closer and closer to it.

I just wish they'd nail it (as close as possible).

Would it not be better for you to turn off the illumination and use a lamp as you would with a book... I thought I read it was possible to turn off the illumination. The screen is tack sharp.

You can absolutely turn the illumination completely off. I tested in a pitch-black closet with the light off/door closed. It's completely off.

But... that does defeat the purpose for me somewhat. I like to have some light and don't want lamp glare if I'm reading in bed etc. Even with the illumination set to just 10 to 11, the inconsistency of it is just like having an ant in the middle of the screen that you can't flick off.

I know I'm in the 0.1%. I acknowledge and own that.

Oh well. Maybe next year.

I can easily see pink patches. If it was me, I'd return it and try again because it's very noticeable. I'm not as sensitive yet I can easily see this and it would bother me.

It's very noticeable in the photos that there are pink patches. Would you put up with that or would you return in for another KO2?

I see them too in the pictures. In real life you do not see them. You DO, however, see the unevenness that presents itself with colors in those images. But in real life it appears different. The key is you CAN see there's clearly work for Amazon to do here.

Yes, the illumination can be turned completely off. Getting it back on in a dark room might be tricky.

I'm clearly a person of no discernment, Jon. Every eInk screen I've ever used or seen has seemed just fine to me.

Of all the first run Kindles that have front lighting, this is about as perfect an implementation as one could hope for! IMHO, Amazon has finally cracked the code on lighting.

Thank you for the pics! I must say the screen looks excellent to me! The best lit kindle I have seen so far. (Although I do have a good Paperwhite, but it was after many exchanges) The Oasis 2 looks very even and I shockingly don't see any colors, something I always see on lit kindles. The slightly uneven illumination doesn't bother me at all, it's the color blotches that do, so it's nice to see the Oasis 2 doesn't appear to have them. This, along with the KoboH20, are as good at lit e-readers come, I think. Enjoy it!

This is my observation as well and hope that it's only a matter of needing break in time. I'm completely enamored with the folding standup implementation on my Fintie Voyage case. Out of the box, this Amazon case is no where near as good as the Fintie for the standup feature. Otherwise it's a beautifully implemented design and fabric.
