On second thoughts, it looks very much like the book is erotica: of the Black Lace variety. Yesterday, I was looking through Facebook posts and found someone asking for comments on two potential book covers, both predominantly black; several people mentioned that both covers looked like erotica, though this wasn't the genre.

The background is black, she's lying upside down with a peaceful/ecstatic expression. She has red hair (often associated with erotism) and it's unclear what she's wearing, just that it's something frilly with a blue pattern.

The genre is very unclear from the cover image.

Wow, I didn't see erotica, but now that you mention it I can see it a little.

It is a pretty cover. It just doesn't fit what you are going for. It would be awesome for something like killer dreams, dreaming of you, man of my dreams. Wicked dreams. Wildest dreams. Not thriller or general fiction.

Ecstatic? Jeeze, if I looked like that, during moments of ecstasy, I'd be seeking help with a sex therapist. She just looks unconscious to me, or at best, drifting off to sleep with NOTHING on her mind. Eyes closed and vapid.

I concur. It does nothing for me, Gregg. I don't find it scary nor interesting in any fashion. My one impulse was to lean down and wipe the dirt (freckles) from her face, which I only realized were freckles after staring at it for a moment. Sorry.

I don't think it's that bad. Obviously she's sleeping--as is reinforced by the title.

The pattern at the top of the image seems fussy. But my main criticism is that the whole cover seems too colorful.

This looks so different when reversed. The woman looks so much younger making it seem like a YA novel.

And yes, she does seem to be resting her chin on the 'G's.

Hitch: There are some Black Lace BDSM novels with very passive participants (at one time my mother used to like reading Black Lace novels; I'd buy some if I saw them at car boot sales and take them to her on visits, in between I would sneek a peek at the contents). Passives, or 'subs' tend to just "lie back and take it" (without getting too graphic on the forum) and the expression depicted in the picture would be normal for them.

But I agree that it's not a 'normal' sexual facial expression.

Now, I'm not good at cover typography, so I can't advise on what should be done to fix it. But it screams 'self-published'.

While it's typical for cover designers to seek contrast, in the text, it's less typical, by far, to use colors that sort of conflict, rather than contrast with, the underlying image.

Sorry, but I cannot warm up to this cover. Gregg, I suggested last time that you take it to CoverCritics.com, and you didn't. Why not this one? Hell, why not the last one? It's not like they charge, they don't.
