Kindle Fire/Kindle Android list view has always had thumbnails. Google Play only has list view with thumbnails. I like thumbnails. I wouldn't know what book it was otherwise. Titles and author doesn't tell me much but a cover. I can remember everything about a cover.

I prefer list views to thumbnails. I can easily remember authors and titles. Thumbnails by themselves don't always let me know what a book is.
I've just deleted the Kindle app on my phone and re-installed it and downloaded my current book and my likely next book. It was using 2.41 gig. It's now using 349 meg. I haven't yet downloaded the audio version of either book. I'm not sure if I'm going to. Barry |

Every now and then I'll spot something different in my library and wonder where did that come from? Then I realize it's a new cover for an old book. |

You can certainly turn them off on eInk Kindles, and you don't see them on either Kindle for PC or Kindle for iOS.

The Fire’s Kindle app has been updated as well (10.30.188_1201698810). Has the new app icon, and adds the ‘V’ Close Book icon to return to Library (before you had to use the slide out navigator to close the book, or use Back system button).
[correcting version number to 10.30.188...] Last edited by tomsem; 10-30-2017 at 12:40 PM. |

Mine's 10.30.188_1201698810 on my new Kindle Fire 10.1. The reading app looks no different to me than the day I bought it. Auto updates have been turned from day one, and no updates are pending. The home screen on my Fire looks nothing like the stand alone Kindle app on my Nexus. Are you certain it's been updated?

Perhaps the seventh gen Kindle Fires already had the newest to begin with. But if so, it certainly doesn't feel like the latest stand-alone app at all. The home page only shows your books. Recommendations are only found in the store. And even then, there's no true integration of Goodreads' "To Read" shelf. Rather, clicking on the Goodreads' To Read category in the Kindle Bookstore merely opens the Goodread app to the To Read shelf.
If this is the updated Fire version, then the new stand-alone Android version of the Kindle App is infinitely more intuitive, in my opinion. |

Fire 10.1 is new, may well have had this from day 1. Fire doesn’t have the same Library/Books UI as the Android app. I do prefer the Android (or iOS) UI but that does not match ‘Fire OS Design Language’. So they are going to remain different. Last edited by tomsem; 10-30-2017 at 12:46 PM. |

Am I the only one who finds the new app icon/splash screen sort of disturbing and confusing? How is the boy able to read under the stars with no reading light? What the heck is he doing out there in the middle of the night? Won’t his parents be worried? Is reading just for boys?
I realize it is a re-working of the artwork they’ve been using for ten years, but this has taken a dark turn. ![]() |
