The one for the KT3 (factory_KT3_5.8.0_initial). I decided I wanted the Constantia font more than I didn't want to jailbreak. (I hope the Constantia font is still available – or it should be the same, right? I think you said the KT3 (even with 5.8.11) would still jailbreak.

You will probably have better luck if you search for the full filename:
update_KT3_5.8.0_initial.bin
I am still getting about 200 hits, and the first hit is still on-line.

I expect that any version of the KT3 firmware can be jailbroken.
An easy way to find out, try to install the VoiceView files:

If you can install that update, you should be able to install our jail break.
(They use the same package type as the initial factory files do.)

Okay, downloading now. I thought the name I was using was the full name. This is how much I don't know about this.

Okay. I'll try it. I've had VoiceView working (just to try it out) but I'm not sure if this is the same thing or not. I don't remember downloading anything special (unless the Kindle just did it on its own).

Okay, that worked (and 5.8.0 software downloaded). So I guess it's okay to try the jailbreak.

EDIT: Jailbreak took -- no issues downgrading the KT3 from 5.8.11 to 5.8.0. Hotfix installed, KUAL installed (I think -- didn't do anything with KUAL Helper?). Upgraded back to 5.8.11 and KUAL still works, so it looks like the jailbreak is still working. Now I'm just looking for font suggestions. I see a font package that looks like it's for 5.6.x (link fonts?), not sure how they would work with 5.8.x. Really I just want Constantia, if that's available for this device. (I've got a LOT to learn about what I can do with the jailbreak.) Thanks for the help. I'll keep looking. (Might post something in the regular Kindle forum.)

Hello - I have recently purchased the PW3 Canadian Amazon version with the firmware version 5.8.9.0.1 (G090 G105 XXXX XXXX). I understand I should post to this before jailbreak so there may be a special instruction I can follow. Can someone help? I am completely new to this but have been reading to get myself upto speed. Any help to jailbreak would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone encountered a wierd behaviour where the .bin file would just dissapear without you downgrading the device or the "update your kindle" showing up on 5.8.11 ? I'm trying to downgrade a KT2 in order to jailbreak it but everytime I copy that .bin it just dissapears after I, safely unmount.

I'm talking about the downgrading process before the actual jailbreaking.
Is jailbreaking the overall process, and downgrading part of it and therefore it will not work as specified in the first post ?

Yes, you cannot downgrade from the firmware over 5.8.7.0.1 thus you cannot jailbreak it.

Yes. You need to downgrade to an older firmware version that is vulnerable to the jailbreak. Amazon has blocked this type of downgrade in newer releases.

Good news:

At the time of this writing, the hotfix still works after updating to 5.9.2, if you find yourself in a situation where you need to re-install it ( registration change, etc. )

Tested with my file: Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.14_nomax_install.bin on PW3


Bad news:

Downgrade to factory is still block on 5.9.x on PW3.
Tested by trying to re-install the voice files which are in the same file format.

Are the voice files an Amazon supported feature on that model? If so, you might want to contact support and see what they tell you to do to get them installed. At worst they tell you it can't be done at present and let the developers know they broke something.
